Went into our local Post Office the other day to be told that we need a copy of our passport to send a package registered mail. Being the disbelieving sort I went into the Mapusa PO to see what they said and guess what? they said we need two copies!! So the answer is you need copies of passports to send Registered mail...or get a Goan friend to send it without the bother!
Its been the case for quite some time now.

Siolim PO generally ask for copy of visa too. I`m always sending small packages to my niece so have a stack of customs forms and copies of passport and visa. I also weigh all my post before I go as the scales are never working and it saves them going to a local grocery store and wasting more time.
Its been the case for quite some time now.

Went in to collect a parcel this morning from the UK and they would not give it to me because the guy who uses the computer is at a funeral and noone else knows how to use it. The parcel was there in front of me and having waited two months for it I was annoyed that they wouldnt give it to me. I suppose another day wont matter unless they loose it!
but at least since Siolom PO was computerised the cost of postage to the UK has dropped!!( Suprise suprise!)

Should the police target people because of their race?
Brilliant debate on Sunday Morning Live this morning.
Samira Ahmed hosts live interactive debates on the topical issues of the week.
At last an ethnic lady who has common sense, who says people in their community should control their children, and ethnic people are nearly always the terrorists in this country.
Excellent debate by Henry Jackson Society etc.
Do you agree with Racial profiling?

To some extent yes if it is accurate and definitive. For example the word "ethnic" used in this way is meaningless.
Also; another example terrorists in UK at this time, are often of Pakistani origin, previously they were Northern Irish. Not Chinese, not Indian, not Japanese.!!! and they are a minority of their own community.
The problem is when racial profiling is involved the tabloid press tend to sensationalise and generalise and play on readers ignorance the whole picture.

How can I win, If I say ethnic it is wrong, Indian it is wrong, Muslim etc etc.
Perhaps should say brown people

People who are not British? People of colour?
My point is always that you cannot lump every one who is not 'white British' into an all encompassing lump of humanity. They are different nationality, different social status etc. etc.
Nor is it ever accurate to describe all of a particular nationality as the same.
How would you respond to a post stating "Welsh people are prone to set fire to incomer's homes"???

It is not wrong Noni but what does it mean in this context?

So I hope those reading about the iniquities of 'browns', 'ethnics',
'Asians' or other general descriptions have the same intelligence.

If a white man is seen running from a shop with an armful of 'loot' no point looking for a black woman.
My point was a request for accuracy of description.
For instance Indians, Malaysians, Chinese, Japanese people make up the
majority of the Asian population in this country.
How many of the these nationalities have been involved in planting bombs or 'gang grooming' young girls; compared with the rest of the population?
So why use the words 'Asian' or 'Ethnic' in relation to these crimes. Which could lead to a wrong accusation of racial prejudice.
The above crimes have occured within some parts of the Pakistani Muslim community and it is surely right to discuss with them how to deal with it.
Just as forced marriage of males and females occurs in some parts of the Indian community as well as the Pakistani community so discuss it, but without the gross generalisations often seen in the tabloids.
