No this discussion is not about discrimination but about profiling for crime prevention.
If a white man is seen running from a shop with an armful of 'loot' no point looking for a black woman.
My point was a request for accuracy of description.
For instance Indians, Malaysians, Chinese, Japanese people make up the
majority of the Asian population in this country.
How many of the these nationalities have been involved in planting bombs or 'gang grooming' young girls; compared with the rest of the population?
So why use the words 'Asian' or 'Ethnic' in relation to these crimes. Which could lead to a wrong accusation of racial prejudice.
The above crimes have occured within some parts of the Pakistani Muslim community and it is surely right to discuss with them how to deal with it.
Just as forced marriage of males and females occurs in some parts of the Indian community as well as the Pakistani community so discuss it, but without the gross generalisations often seen in the tabloids.

I live in a place endemic with racial profiling. If you see a black/brown/yellow/red woman running out of the bank with a sack over their shoulder with the words SWAG stenciled on, by all means report the suspect as such. That's not racial profiling. What is racial profiling is seeing a <insert colour here> woman running down the street and assuming she must be a bank robber.
Puts a whole new meaning on house-husband........
ps; the sheeps reference had nothing to do with you.
Of course.

I always thought Waugh to be the master at putting the Welsh down. Come to think of it, he was a master at putting many groups down.
"The Welsh character is an interesting study," said Dr. Fagan. "I have often considered writing a little monograph on the subject, but I was afraid it might make me unpopular in the village. The ignorant speak of them as Celts, which is of course wholly erroneous. They are of pure Iberian stock-- the aboriginal inhabitants of Europe who survive only in Portugal and the Basque district. Celts readily intermarry with their neighbours and absorb them. From the earliest times the Welsh have been looked upon as an unclean people. It is thus that they have preserved their racial integrity. Their sons and daughters rarely mate with human-kind except their own blood relations. In Wales there was no need for legislation to prevent the conquering people intermarrying with the conquered. In Ireland that was necessary, for there intermarriage was a political matter. In Wales it was moral. I hope, by the way, you have no Welsh blood?"
"None whatever," said Paul.
"I was sure you had not, but one cannot be too careful. I once spoke of this subject to the sixth form and learned later that one of them had a Welsh grandmother. I am afraid it hurt his feelings terribly, poor little chap. She came from Pembrokeshire, too, which is of course quite a different matter. I often think," he continued, "that we can trace almost all the disasters of English history to the influence of Wales. Think of Edward of Carnarvon, the first Prince of Wales, a perverse life, Pennyfeather, and an unseemly death, then the Tudors and the dissolution of the Church, then Lloyd George, the temperance movement, Nonconformity and lust stalking hand in hand through the country, wasting and ravaging. But perhaps you think I exaggerate? I have a certain rhetorical tendency, I admit."
"No, no," said Paul.
"The Welsh," said the Doctor, "are the only nation in the world that has produced no graphic or plastic art, no architecture, no drama. They just sing," he said with disgust, "sing and blow down wind instruments of plated silver...."

Me thinks this is taking political correctness just a bit to far - fact is the current wave of terrorists that we are having to deal with are Muslim that is not to say that all Muslims are terrorists, however it seems currently that all terrorists are Muslim. Consequently and quite rightly when the authorities are profiling potential terrorists unsurprisingly they are all Muslim. This is not racism, just common sense! In exactly the same way when the terrorist threat came from the IRA if you wanted a guarantee'd stop whilst driving simply drive a car with Irish number plates.
Further it seems that the vast majority of Muslims realise and accept this without complaint, as is always the case if you have nothing to hide then it isn't a problem just a minor inconvenience.

Police in UK seem to be more knowledgeable than in USA judging by some
of the eminent Indian Muslims insulted by USA immigration officers.

[QUOTE=Bipat;10124562]''it is somewhat unpleasant to read if you are one of the so-called "ethnics".
This prejudice against various ethnic groups is a relatively recent thing, not that I am suggesting that makes it any more acceptable; however it is being eradicated by a combination of education and legislation.
Now try being Jewish, 2000 years of prejudice culminating in genocide of millions;now that is unpleasant if you are one of those so called ''ethnics''.

I don't really think it is 'relatively recent' it has always been there.
I agree that it is gradually being eradicated. In last few years I rarely even thought about racism much, (until I discovered this Forum)

Having worked in Europe, Africa and the Middle East for more than forty years, the first time I ever felt being racially profiled was in Goa. Most living here have experienced the " white skin tax " which is generally laughable and is carried out by individuals. When it becomes the strategy of government then it is truly racist. The non registration of foreigners homes are a prime example of a racist government. I really hate the term " foreigner. "

Agree with you at least you know how it feels to be defined by the colour of your skin.
One point though you chose to set up home in Goa as did original immigrants to the UK. The difference now though in UK is that most now were born there and still suffer with labels.
Interesting item by Samira Ahmed the lady mentioned at the start of this line of discussion.
