Re: goa property scams

In Goa only Indian nationals may purchase property. This has not stopped unsrcupulous estate agents, abetted my by crroked lawyers, in selling homes to foreigners. A scam. In Spain, to take a quote from the article,
"About 50,000 owners of beachside properties have lost rights to their homes after Spain’s coastal law was amended and applied retroactively, according to PNALC, a group representing owners affected by the coastal law. As many as 500,000 could eventually be affected by the law, the organization said."
I doubt whether owners of properties affected by this law care about semantics. This is a "legal" scam and nothing else.

In Goa (= India) only Indian residents may purchase property... in Goa the interpretation/ implementation of the law has been changed retrospectively...This is also a "legal" scam and nothing else.

For sure, but you appeared to compare the situation in Spain to Goa, and I was pointing out they are very different :)

One of those was about a developer which went bust (not surprising I'm afraid in the present climate)), and the other about a couple that bought a house that was illegal. Pound to a penny they didnt use a solicitor. If they had, maybe they would have probably discovered there was no planning permission for the property. There's loads of people who knowingly bought illegal property in Spain .... because it was cheaper!!!! Then they complained afterwards!

The papers dont mention that though do they. Would you expect the UK government to help financially if someone built a house there without planning permission?

Anyway, this is the Goa forum, not the Spanish one :);)
