I don't think Remy or J5 are being flippant here. There have been many changes to laws and visa rules in Goa in the last few years and many people who have bought property have found themselves in the mire big style. Regarding your first property bought through Keith Morling - have you been regularly visiting this property ? Also unless you are a person of Indian origin or an Oversees Citizen of India, at the present time you have absolutley no chance of converting the lease to ownership as the registry is refusing to register deeds for any foreigner or any foreign owned company. Just be very careful that your builder does not do what other builders have done and refuse to renew your lease after 5 years (foreigners can only have a lease to a max of 5 years). Re the visas - unless you are PIO or OCI you can only remain in India for up to 180 days and then you must leave. You cannot then reenter India for 2 months. If you are intending to live there, you will need to add this into your finance plans. There is also talk that tourist visas are to be cut to 3 months and even then you have to sty out for 2 months. Thingsmay change between now and your retirement as you have a few years to go - I hope so for your sake and many others. Dread - go careful x |
Re: goa property scams
Are the british a victim of there own red tape ?? 100+ years ago we added india to the 'empire'..the indians have added chaos and there own style to our foolish endeavours !!..i love the place and always will..ive seen half built hotels..passed through corupt politicians..torn down etc blah blah..as new 'order' comes to power.the place politically will always and continue to be volitile( ive been chasing the party scence since 1994)..and had a great time with it..!!...how many parties ?? have i seen closed because the backshee was not enough..i dont have enough fingers..!! gov/cops have all but closed it down now....hey ho...the children have to sleep and get up for school !!..its my belief with all the western commerce flowing into india ....call centers etc...that the market place to non indians will open up to a western way of thinking...once again i wont hold my breath..end of the day i will keep banging on the door until they let me in...wish me luck...

Re: goa property scams
sydone1 - dread has offered to pm you info on someone who can help - fine. But you wouldn't go to a solicitor to file company accounts in the UK, you would go to a chartered accountant - and that's what you should do in Goa. Also if you have set up a company you should have a Company Secretary, and they should know what to do.

Lets face it most people semi-retire to India/Goa because its cheap living and hotter than the UK but when you factor in the poor infrastructure, corruption, poverty and disease elements etc, etc, i think many would agree that when all said and done, the UK is a great place to live. I do think the Ninebar absolutely sucks though so i guess we all have our opinions but you definitely wont be seeing me there.:) |
