The UK, like most countries, is suffering from recession and is looking for ways to save money. Obviously, cutting aid packages can be a direct source of savings, and any country that appears not to be giving UK citizens a fair deal will find its aid packages affected.
Consider the fact the UK has promised India an aid package of £825 million over the next three years and ask yourself whether you would review aid to a country that is effectively bullying its expat citizens into submission?
I live not too far away from the corridors of power and, believe me, the UK needs to save money!"

Have our screams, rants and cries for help been heard ?

Couple the above, with the article shown below & arrive at your own conclusions:

Britain to shut doors to foreign workers

Britain is planning to ban advertising jobs overseas due to economic meltdown, a process which could hit Indian professionals aspiring for employment opportunities in UK.

The government is mulling an idea to ensure that existing jobs go to British workers. The employers are being forced to notify vacancies in employment agencies within Britain to prioritise local candidates.

Indians are among the largest foreign professionals working in Britain.

Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, has announced plans to force thousands of nursing, primary teaching, hotel management and other "skilled migrant" jobs to be advertised in employment agencies such as Jobcentre Plus.

Smith said "When it comes to immigration, in difficult economic times, I believe we need a tough system that offers British workers the first crack of the whip for jobs here."

Companies that break the new rules could have their licence to employ non-European Union migrants revoked.

Officials believe that the change will curb the number of migrants coming to Britain, because they will not be able to obtain a work visa without having a specific job offer.

Official figures show that immigrants have taken four out of every five new jobs in Britain since 1997. The Office for National Statistics says that there are currently 5,62,000 unfilled vacancies in the British economy.

I've deleted some parts of the article to hopefully try & avoid copywright issues.

So be warned, do not "play prank" with Russians, also do not "play roulette" with Russians.

Best idea, play "kick hard in b*lls and leg it quick" with Russians.

Safer.

However, description matches Russian "ladies" seen in Mapusa today, do they have b*lls?

Russian "ladies" seemed glad of a holiday from ploughing, so did their handlers!

Don't seem to be able to get the Herald on line just keeps saying catastrophic failure - please J5 give us a quick synopsis of this story - know how much you like the Russians.
Must go back to buying a newspaper it seems - had words with the lady in the newspaper shop (or she had words with me - didn't understand what she was shouting about) and vowed never to step inside the shop again but I will have to eat my words if I want to know what is happening. Thought I would be able to read on line but Herald does not want to play.

Russians, locals clash at Benaulim
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JAN 19
Colva police rushed to Maria hall, Benaulim as a scuffle between a group of Russians and locals threatened to turn into a major law and order problem.
The incident occurred this evening when the Russian group allegedly assaulted a local after an unknown person allegedly played prank with a female member of the group.
As the sturdy built Russian built nationals were found assaulting the local person, locals from the Maria hall junction area intervened on behalf of the local and questioned them over the assault.
As the issue threatened to snowball into a major law and order problem, the Colva police rushed to Maria hall and lifted both the groups to the police station.
When contacted, PI Sidhant Shirodkar informed that the Russian group and the local, who became the victim of their fury, have compromised after realising that the entire episode occurred over a misunderstanding.
He said that the local was in no way involved in playing prank with the Russian lady, adding that he has asked the Russian to lodge a complaint against the unknown person who played the prank on them.
Further investigations are on.

Works here too innit

I just love that bit

Oldman,

What does the 'opinion' say? I can't find anything relevant in the on-line edition.

Lulu, goa, says:Nothing to do with the fact that the place is a stinking garbage dump, has too many beggars and hawkers and the locals try to rip you off at every opportunity?
^^^

that is what i responded with to the goan voice on the tourist drop...i'm the only one so far that has responded, maybe we should all make a concerted effort to give our opinions to the editors, maybe then we will be heard.

I responded too but as yet they have not printed my reply. They probably will not do so now as it is already a few days. I try to do this most days by sending off comments to the various newspapers. I have found that some are more ready than others to post a critical comment. I agree with you that if everybody did this it would add to the comments being made and make a statement. Perhaps it would provoke some thoughts in those reading them. Even if you send them and they do not get published they are being read and monitored by the paper itself and that in itself is a way of making comment.

Important ! anyone with businesses ?

From todays GV; please read !

Registration of biz by foreigners gets tougher
22 Jan: Times of India. Foreign nationals wanting to register a company in India will need to have their signatures and addresses on the memorandum of association, as well their proof of identity notarized by a notary of the country of their origin…Several foreigners who have established businesses in Goa have come under the scanner as it was alleged that some with a dubious record had formed companies with the sole purpose of purchasing property in India…
