For goodness sake don't type Speedo into Google here in Goa then. Last year in UK we were looking to buy Speedo Endurance swimwear to wear in clorinated pools as it is was developed to not react with pool chemicals. (by the way it is brilliant) From they on we were inundated with "gay" websites -photos and offers of films until we were able to put a block on them.

I too remember the planting of the drugs and a couple of young lads who came into Bernards in Baga almost in tears as they had been relieved of their holiday spending money by the men in kharki on this threat. Thought it would be safer to carry their money instead of leaving it in their room - poor sods.

(More) Double Standards (Again)!

Brits (affluent or not or those who have saved or borrowed) "can't" have a second/holiday home in India, however affluent Indians can take advantage of the global economic downturn to purchase a second/holiday home in the UK - :curse::curse::curse:

Not exactly in the papers, but on TV at least!

BBC World News, which I'm sure a lot of you watch at times, also incorporates a World Weather section. This, when its our turn, gives weather for the area including the Indian Sub-continent, ( does sub-continent mean you pee yourself, but only occasionally?), which, for at least the past couple of seasons has usually picked out Goa specifically on the map and quite often in the verbal commentary. This was exceptional as other specific holiday destinations were not!
This season, however, to the best of my knowledge as a fanatical weather forecast-watcher (ex professional gardener), Goa has not been shown or mentioned at all.
Interesting to think that Auntie BeeB in all her wisdom has also decided that Goa is down the toilet and not worth mentioning anymore, innit?

Have just read in todays Daily Mail that the UK will give India 825 MILLION pounds in foreign aid over the next 3 years. This makezs me crazy. India is an emerging nuclear world power with an ever increasing number of billionaires and yet is the recipient of foreign aid from us the UK taxpayers. This does not make any sense. this just adds insult to injury when you think how they are treating all of us who have foolishly spent our hard earned money here on property.

100% agree with you and yet our Government will do nothing to help us,all we have been told by the Foreign affairs minister is that they cannot get involved but will take a very dim view if any property bought by a Brits is confiscated. If Britain threated to stop the aid I bet we would all get our deeds and be left in peace. It makes my blood boil:curse::curse::curse:THIS SHOULD PUT THE TAX WE PAY UP YET AGAIN

Spotted this one today. Predictably its a load of figures telling us what we already knew regarding fall in numbers of tourists.
What intrigued me was the last paragraph, Temporary Landing Permits??
Over 4000 of them issued?
Anyone heard of those before?

Agree with you, have read this twice now in the last week in articles related to dropping numbers of tourists ( it has usually been in relation to articles about Russian tourists in particular and young, single females not being granted Visas to come to Goa). Both times these temporary landing permits were mentioned as the answer to the problem. Not sure why. Not a clue as to what they are or how you could be allowed on a flight without a valid Visa. Who would issue them and for what purpose? ( presumably immigration at the airport? For a very short stay?) Perhaps someone can enlighten us? Expect it will turn out to be wishful thinking, like so much here can be. If they do indeed exist at some stage they would presumably lighten the burden of issuing tourist Visas and that might free up the service in Indian Consulates abroad?

Here you go:

Immigration officer may grant TLP (Temporary Landing Permit) up to a maximum period of 72 hours by retention of passport, if the foreigner is not having a valid visa, and if he is satisfied of the purpose and that the transiting foreigners must have a confirmed onward journey tickets within 72 hours for grant of TLP. Nationals of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, Nigeria, and Ethiopia are not granted TLP facility.

On production of bonafide proof and on satisfaction of FRRO/FRO cum District Superintendent of Police, Temporary Landing Facility (TLF) can be granted to the foreigners arriving in India without valid VISA, in emergent situation, like death/illness in the family up to a period of 15 days. For further extension of stay in such cases, the foreigner concerned should report to Ministry of Home Affairs, Foreigners Division, Jaisalmer House, 26, Man Singh Road, New Delhi.

Indian currency equivalent to US$40 is charged for TLP/TLF .

A foreigner may be refused entry, if he/she is not entering India from the designated port, not in possession of valid passport and visa, is insane or suffering from infectious or loathsome disease which is prejudicial to public health, involved in an extraditable offence or his/her entry is is prohibited under the specific order of the Central government.

I for one would not take my chance of arriving at immigration without a valid visa in the hope of being granted a TLP or a TLF by your local friendly immigration agent!

I love the bit where it says if you've got a 'loathsome' disease, you ain't getting a TLP/TLF anyway!:eek::rofl::eek::rofl:

Well done Mr Hemingway!

So basically its for up to 3 days transit........where the hell would you be in transit to, landing in Goa?

Or, its for up to two weeks stay in absolute emergency like death in family, and you've just arrived for a holiday? Absolute nonsense.

Especially with 4782 of them issued from Sept to Dec 2008! Even if we assume it is some sort of preference to Russians, as previously reported, the numbers are massive. If this was some sort of "back-door" visas on arrival scam for the Reds and their tour operators, it amounts to more than 25% of the total Russians for that period.............hmmmm? Starting to sound a bit like an answer, isn't it?

$40 per head (legitimate)= £26 approx

Cost of visa (based on UK) = £40 approx

Difference of £14 x 4782 = £67,000 approx

But as this is Goa, heaven knows how much the Russians are actually being charged?

Apart from infectious diseases, beginning to think we are all "insane" to be here, innit?

Re: In To-day's Newspapers

So I ask a question, and a few minutes later, I am answering myself!

http://www.indopia.in/India-usa-uk-n...ational/1/20/1

I would suggest this indicates that either the Russians are being heavily favoured........obviously because they are such nice people, or

Russia doesn't have a postal service meaning they can't apply by post like we have to, or

Its just another way they have found to emphasise that they really don't want Brits cluttering the place up?
