Amazingly perceptive of the Keystone cops to work out that if the murderous thug Pacheco is guilty of anything at all, then "joined-at-the-hip Lynndonn" will have been in on it too. After all, if "Murder My Mrs" Mickie gets bitten by a mosquito, its Shri L. Monteiro who scratches it.............

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
From his appearance (hoodlum), and lack of intellectual skills reputedly shown in his high position at the Tourism Dept, on the very rare occasions he has shown up for work there, it seems unlikely..............although there are many that would say it makes it relatively more likely, innit?

For a start, Goa is a state (and in a state) of India, not a nation at all. It is a very small state, about the size of Cornwall and to be honest, has very little to offer the average tourist other than beach tourism. Yes I know they are always going on about hinterland/heritage tourism but mediocre would be a kind description, and certainly not worth travelling 5000 miles each way to the average two weak tourist!
Secondly, Desai the Dim bemoans his publicity budget of Rs950 crores...........thats £136 million! Is that correct? Surely not.
But his master stroke is:
We should aim for a target — say 5 lakh tourists arrivals in the coming season and then aim for half a million.

Not mentioned above....
Under Indian law (sic) this made the appointment highly illegal.
And this would bother a government minister in Zimbabwe-on-Sea?

What Mickky Pacheco does not know about women, call them ladies if you like, is not worth the bother. When years back an NRI mission headed by its commissioner officially visited Bahrain,
a local leader Francis Correia showed them a small cubicle from where Mickky Pacheco operated his tailoring shop specialising in ladies garments. He had many and they were all happy with the services he rendered. His ambition then was to play football for the local Goan Club. That is perhaps the only one that remains unfulfilled. He came to own a football club but before that he married a rich American woman who obliged and died before long, leaving him her wealth. Once Google listed him as a leading perfumer.
To say the least, he has always been in the limelight. When his present wife sued him for bigamy, instigated by Churchill Alemão he alleged (who are again the best of pals), he nonchalantly told the court that it was untrue that he was bigamous. He continued marriage to his lawful wife but, as a matter of detail, he was also living with another woman of whom he had (at that point in time three children). This minor detail which in no way placed him outside the pale of law.
Now, the law is at his shins again. Who knows? He may well come unscathed again. This time he may have lost for now his cabinet post, but an MLA he remains and entitled to his privileges and voting rights. If NCP decides to oust him, an unattached member of the house he will be, just like Babush Monserrate. And that is saying a lot. If one unattached MLA is enough to keep the government in jitters, imagine what two might!!
I was introduced to Mickky by Baba Carlos Noronha Jr. He is the son of the late Carlinhos Noronha, a personal friend, and in his lifetime quite a man. Baba was then teaching at Pacheco’s “Academy”, which specialised in recruiting sailors.
“E’ homen com pasta”, (Baba said in a significant aside (“he is loaded with it”) and placed before me the tycoon. White is his favourite colour, which I suppose is his way of displaying his immaculateness. White and gold go very well.
“What may I do for you, sir”, I humbly inquired.
There he was sitting on one of my mother’s antique chairs, cross-legged, riding boots on, gold on his neck, gold on his wrist, gold on his boots, and a heavy arrow-shaped golden broach on his beret.
“You write, no?” said the tycoon.
“What is it you want, sir? A biography?”
“No, no,” said the lord, “Put my name in what you write,” he said. Simply put, he wanted me to mention him as often as I could, in the best possible light, and I would have no reason to regret. I just couldn’t do it, I said. A man of quick decisions, he called Baba who was at his side, adjusted his beret and told me off in as many words. And off they went.
Not much later, he became an MLA and a minister. That is what I know of Mickky Pacheco who now is, for the Goa Police, a wanted criminal.
Mickky’s Partner, Viola Interrogated by the Crime Branch
12 Jun: Navhind Multimedia. Viola, partner of the former tourism minister Francisco Xavier Pacheco on Saturday appeared before the Crime Branch office at Dona Paula and was questioned for eight hours.
(Confused, I am I thought she was his wife)
Police intensify hunt for Mickky
13 Jun. Navhind Times. The police conducted searches late Saturday night in Colva in an attempt to hunt down Mickky Pacheco … The police were tipped off that Mr Pacheco was likely to visit one place in coastal belt. They conducted searches at three places in Colva and also verified the places where he was expected to visit. However, his whereabouts were not known

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Reply to Johnny Five's post 2497. I agree that 950 crore rupees seems excessive for Goa's Tourism Budget. Advertising what, exactly? Perhaps they should fund the removal of the River Princess out of that exorbitant budget - that was around 130 crore rupees, if the aging braincells stand me in good stead. He's only mentioning Finland, Luxembourg & Singapore 'cos they are 3 of the 5 countries recently offered visa-on-arrival facility. It's not surprising Singapore receives 20 million visitors annually - it is a sophisticated and above all CLEAN country. Didn't Finnish charters pull out of Goa a year or so back, because of the cleanliness problem, among others? Why would they want to come back if nothing has changed. Actually ONLY 5.5 million (55 lakh) foreign visitors to a country the size of and with the diversity of India needs to be closely looked at - something is going badly wrong somewhere - could it be their antiquated bureaucracy and general misstrust of foreigners that's at the heart of the problem?

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Johnny 5 says Goa is a 'state' and not a 'nation'. However, if posters on BE can for a minute accept that Goa is a 'nation', (but not a "nation state" having not had the chance to become one), and accept also that foreigners are being used as scapegoats for political purposes with a major side benefit of financial gain, then much of what is happening makes complete sense.
What benefit is to be derived from "accepting" a total inaccuracy?
Surely that is going down the same road as the buffoons that run Goa, who frequently behave as if the place is a sovereign nation by passing/enacting laws in a cavalier and haphazard manner, usually illegally within the constitution of India of which they are a part.
What reason would anyone have for pretending that Goa is a nation? What would be its national identity? Portuguese names, facial characteristics, buildings, Catholicism........probably better to consider it still a colony of Portugal then?
