Serious injury potential is probably greater in field hockey, I wouldnt want to get hit by a short corner strike for example, even my hits were clocked near 100mph. I've broken fingers and caused knee ligament injuries, ended a couple of goalies careers through injury, and they wear protective gear! Seen plenty of nasty facial injuried indoors in particular as there was just no time to react and get out of the way. On the other hand if lacross was played without padding I suspect it would be worse than field hockey.

Then again you see that old NHL footage of players without helmets or much in the way of armour. Maybe US sportsmen are just paid too much to risk them getting injured and picking up megabucks for sitting on the bench, and they need to cram in as many adds as possible to pay them.

I do wear VERY GOOD shinguards .... I found them a couple of seasons ago, and I feel like a storm trooper when I play in them. I have never worn a gumshield though, and only wore a glove when I'd got stitches in my hand one time :D

In our age, the only people who tended to wear mouth-guards were those who had already been hit in the mouth (when it was a bit like locking the stable door after the whatever had bolted) ..... or those who had been in very close proximity to them when they it happened!!! eughhhhh !!! :p

One girl I played with had a ball hit her in the mouth ..... she broke several teeth, lacerated her lip, and suffered a concussion. She never played again, and still gets headaches and dizzy spells ....... I must be loopy, I'm going to throw my stick on the fire immediately ..... or give it to my young lad!! :D

edit: It's a good thing field hockey is a non-contact sport eh? ;)

I used to play goal had great fun picking the attackers of with the clearances.

Ball, stick or kickers something was going to make contact if anyone dared come to close

http://www.england-direct.com
(the price next to the "sale" logo is not the sale price, its the old price)

By the time you pay shipping it works out at about $50 for a shirt, less if you dont get a tax ding on delivery, which is substantially less than the $140 they wanted in places like sportchek last time or the $80US asked at worldsoccershop.com

Pretty expensive for something I might only wear to do an oil change on the car....:D :D :D

Best of luck in June anyway....:)

I have to point out the fact that we in the UK have been told not to fly the flag in case we might offend any other race residing in our beautiful country

So as a result i would say that Many including myself, have already got the Flag up and flying proud,
ready and waiting to give the lads the send off they deserve in the hope that we will be rewarded with gold

43 DAYS TO GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Green Cross Code man was played by David Prowse a Bristol chap who was also the original Darth Vader. I think it must of been mid to late 70s, goverment attempt to make crossing the road cool :D
Tufty was a squirel who had a mate who was always getting knocked over (I think!) and kids used to join the Tufty Club to learn how to not get knocked over. I was also in The Tufty Club, but I was very young!
Next we'll be talking about Spangles and Choppers!
