Now we're talking, with a glass of Vintage port maybe .... Can't say I've seen Neil's Yard Stilton around my area though ...

They have it in some of those posh supermarkets here. Though you have to be resolute and ask for a piece cut off the main chunk or its been sitting out for ages. They get a bit snooty about doing that, but if you demand to see the manager, they quickly jump to it.

Just reading some of the threads on here make me feel I am so lucky - both Mike and I are the happiest we have been and getting better, we have no stress and great friends - canadian, english, japanese, dutch just to name a few. Our wait of 5 years for the visas to come through were definately worth it. I do feel sorry for people who don't have the happiness we have and wish they could find it - but - at the end of the day I always say - life if what you make it

That's not just Canadians Karen - I freeze cheese and have done so for years and years - and I grew up on a dairy farm in England!!
I don't ever eat cheese cold though ... always room temperature and yes, Balderson's 6 year cheddar (from Costco) is pretty darned good.

I think the pound's drop is making it look worse than it is. Generally, i used to find the price of a pint here was roughly the same as London. Last time I was in Manchester centre, price of a pint was around 3 quid and bottles were over that, which at the time (2 years ago) was not that much cheaper really.

Hi
article on current UK price of beer.
http://www.caterersearch.com/Article...land-tops.html
average price £3.01
we buy chese bulk at costco and freeze it.
In the end it's 'swings and roundabouts', the price of beef and salmon in canada is amazing, so cheap..
in my it opinion more than compensates for the beer and cheese.
cheers

Yes but that is the south east of England....different world down there! In my old local it was 2.20 a pint and even 1.60 on Friday's happy hour from 5til7pm! and it was a fine fine pint! certainly miss that!
You are correct tho I can enjoy a decent steak here for half the price it is in the UK, and pork chops are dirt cheap, infact all meat seems a lot cheaper which is good! so yes it is swings and roundabouts, it just makes a trip to the the pub more expensive, if you do it fairly regular like I do.
