If I could I'd probably live in the Maritimes but the Ottawa Valley is nice and with 3 kids under 5 my wild party days are over and we got enough pubs and restaurants for a nice night out.

So tell me where was I completely wrong? Just for education purposes

It does rain a lot in Vancouver, It is densely populated and it is fairly expensive, at least what I call expensive
oh for sure.

It rains a lot in winter, but summers here are fab. We definitely have true seasons. It is also densely populated, but it doesn't feel like that to me: lots of green space and highrises etc are designed to be surrounded by greenspace, amenities etc so it really doesn't feel like that. There is forest only 10 mins walk from my house and I only live 15 mins drive from downtown vancouver.

It is expensive. Yes. But, again, if you are willing to live in the fraser valley it's not that bad and out there, the weather is less rainy too.

Less time to travel to do all that shopping in the US and of course the duty free. Maybe a trip to Ben & Jerrys ice cream place, shopping for maple syrup.
Vermont sounds more sexier than Ontario and if pushed New Hampshire makes them think of the south of England.

Im still waiting for a decent answer on what Vancouver has that Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg dont have besides the mountains and the ocean?

IMO the rain gives the rest of canada something to feel superior about, hence the constant harping on it. Let's face it there's not a lot else.
North Vancouver 2000 mm

Burnaby 1900 mm

Vancouver 1200 mm

White Rock 1100 mm

Scurvy 1050 mm

Tsawwassen 980 mm

I thought you liked statistics?

If you had a choice, which would you pick - Vancouver or Victoria over Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg?

It has restaurants were the food doesn't always come on a plastic tray.
Its not freezing and snowing for months.
It doesn't get too hot in the summer.
It has shops were you can get most things you want.
You can fly to most places without having to get off the aeroplane and onto another one.
Its not as ugly to look at.
You can get a bus home easily when you had a few down the pub.
Good bands actually come and play here.
It not full of boring famers or miners.
You can fish in the sea all year round.

People can cycle all year round on the Prairies and some crazy bastards do.
Where else are you going to put all those goose feathers besides pillows and duvets?
If that way inclined wearing a balaclava in a 7-11 gets interesting.
We eat in restaurants without plastic trays.
We have decent bands playing as well as home grown ones
We dont pay extortionate prices for funky clothing made by hippies toking up on BC bud and selling them as earth friendly.
We have public transit that gets you home from our pubs plus we even have those things called taxis.
You can fish in the pristine lakes all year round.
We also have beaches as well to bake on.
You can actually afford to live in those cities and spend less than $500 grand for a decent house not a crack shack on a lot waiting to be ripped down.
We probably dont have as many pan handlers due to our climate which is a bonus.
We dont complain half as much about or weather.
Each to their own I guess.

I think there should be a new word for "Sunny in Canada during winter" cos when people say "sunny" it sounds, well, nice cos in most countries that means it's warm, not so cold you could die after a few minutes of exposure.

How about Scummy?

Snunny?

Frunny?

Hypothermiunny?

Yeah, it certainly is a bonus the way the cold kills of the poor, saves the streets being so cluttered.

They all naff off to Vancouver & Victoria so we have very few cold related deaths. Most deaths are related to people not dressing for the weather and a lot of these people choose to be homeless. Poor people die everywhere even in hot cities where clothing is somewhat less stringent.
If you were homeless and poor where would you sooner be Vancouver or Winnipeg?
Im not being insensitive just telling you how it is.
