Ah study permit is a form of residency. IMHO
Don't know how the Canadian govt does it t'other way 'round, but I got my UK Visa which expires April 2008 and my passport expires in a couple of months... dont know how similar the two embassies work but just sharing mine experience the other direction.

And apologes to both Iain's for implying relation... tbh I've not seen the name spelt that way until I arrived in the UK, it's always Ian in spelling.. or one bloke I met whose name was spelt Eon which I always thought was a time span

Thanks for your thoughts.

i'd say, pure sentimentality, keep it. whats the harm, its a little bit of your history, for a few quid that in a months time you won't miss.
