Passport question.

Right now my UK pp has my canadian citizenship card taped inside it anyway, covering both the bases I suppose.

I assume they do. I have their Canadian and British passports in a draw here and I know they go to the US, one's even dating an American. I'm not sure though what the procedures are for Swiss nationals.

Actually thinking about this, what it comes down to is that nothing comes close to the pomp of 'Her Britannic majesty's secretary of state, requests and requires blah let or hindrance blah afford all assistance blah blah'. Worth keeping for that alone.

"Shucks, have they put I was born in London England? The fools, it was London Canada".

The inflight magazine would have to be exceptionally poor even for that genre to be reduced to reading the passport for its entertainment value!
I wonder what the canadian one has? I expect that being canadian its something bland and inoffensive
I would check in the wife's one, but she hides it because of the criminally embarrassing photo.

Some British visa post overseas, only issue the ones without the machine readable strip. The USA may not allow you to travel without one of these types of ppt.
I have a feeling this thread is just rubbing salt into the wounds of us wan be CAN ppt holders, who have a long wait for that dilemma to materialise.

Ottawa is issuing Brits with biometric passports now, Mr B's is much admired by border guards. They all say they haven't got the software to read it but it's nice for them to see their first one. I like the hardback style of it, much easier to swipe through a check-in kiosk than my soggy Canadian one, although the new artwork inside does look a bit 1970s eastern european

I think nearly all new UK pps now have biometric info incorporated, but canada has yet to decide on this, so if the US goes crazy(crazier?) and insist on this for canadians then $87 now will have been wasted at some point. I cant see it happening though, there was enough resistance to simple passports for US entry.

It's an emotional thing. It's about being true to oneself.
I see a Canadian passport as a document of transient value, it's useful only while one lives in Canada and travels frequently to the US. If one lives anywhere else one may as well use the document showing one's original and proper nationality. I don't expect to have a Canadian passport when I die as I hope to have moved on and, anyway, having a Canadian passport has always felt like a badge of failure; a successful person shouldn't have had to go to the back of beyond to make a living. I'm an immigrant, not really part of Canada, and I'm rather embarassed and apologetic when I use the local document.
