You are eligible to use ABC kiosks when entering Canada if:

You are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, or a U.S. citizen and
You have a valid Canadian passport or permanent resident card, or U.S. passport.
Travellers - Automated Border Clearance

Those on study/work permits although residents of Canada temporarily are not considered PR's so they cannot use the ABC kiosks.

Right. But as they aren't classed as a visitor (they have a work/study permit and live here) can they not use the "Canadian residents" line and just go past the machines and see a CBSA officer? There has to be a way for people who are citizens/PRs and don't want to use machines, or can't do to ailments or disabilities to use the residents line and see a CBSA officer, so can't TWP holders just do that?

Depending which airport you fly into some have Canadian resident lines some just have one line for everyone. Only 3 airports have the ABC kiosks but the new Calgary terminal might have them.
Remember not all airports are like Pearson or Vancouver;)

You're correct. Obviously the ones with no ABC or separate lines everyone is in one line anyway so the whole thing is moot ;)

YXU is like this.

Re: NEXUS card

Hi I just got a new PR card (with the missing letter now appearing on my middle name as there is space for up to 28 letters now with the new design!).

I have listened to all the recorded messages and realize that I am required to go to an enrolment centre to update the PR Card info.

Before I go trudging down to Main Street, can anyone who has done this please confirm that I can just walk in and that I don't need a prior appointment? There is nothing written or spoken on the recorded message which says I do, but just checking in case anyone has done this.

Thank you!

I asked this when I was at my interview. They said for information updates (which would entail scanning your new passport into Global Entry, or updates to documents that can't be done online) you can walk right in.

Do nexus holders have to use nexus line when driving over a land border?

I ask out of curiosity as we crossed last week by land and the Nexus lane had a line of 10 or so cars where the 3 normal lanes had 0 cars.

Just wondering. Was odd seeing a nexus line and no line at all in the normal lanes.

You can choose to use any lane although you don't get NEXUS privileges in a non NEXUS lane. Just make sure if using a NEXUS lane that all persons in the vehicle are NEXUS members and have a NEXUS card on them.

Re: NEXUS card

Update: went to Main Street CBSA offices in Vancouver.
Receptionist took photocopy of my Nexus card plus new PR card. She said it takes about 48 hours to update.

Then I complicated matters by asking about my daughter's UK passport (she also has a Canadian passport). UK passport expires in 4 days and at the Nexus interview, they said records must be updated when we get the new one. We want to wait till she is 16 in February as we can get a 10 year passport for her then. The receptionist she didn't know if this was okay and it might be a problem, so I should speak to the officer. I queued up to do this but he said it was fine, he agreed better to wait till she was 16, and was that all I had come for. I said Yes but didn't realize till after that he must have thought I only came for that rather than actually for the PR card update!

Anyway, all straightforward and fine.

The officer was correct - you gave them proof of her UK citizenship when you got NEXUS, she doesn't need to have a constantly valid UK passport to use NEXUS, or even a valid Canadian one if she restricts her travel to land border crossings with her NEXUS card.

Crossed into the US and back into Canada within a couple of hours today. The US/Canada IOs didn't even look at our NEXUS cards...just waved us through.

Re: NEXUS card

Please can someone clarify the procedure for me as we are planning a couple of days in Seattle just after Christmas and I haven't been for a few years.

I am a Canadian PR, UK PP, my husband & daughter are CCs. We have NEXUS cards now. I have an ESTA.

So I apply for an I-94 online no more than a week before I go and then when we travel we go in the NEXUS lanes and then I/we ... ? (please could some kind person fill in the ... From the website it seems to me you still have the (I-94) interview etc. at the border like we had last time we went only not my husband and daughter this time).

https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/apply-document.

Thank you!

If you already have ESTA you won't need the interview at the border, iirc. Or maybe you just don't have to pay the $6.
Why did you not become a CC with your DH/DD if I might be nosy? :p
