Re: NEXUS card

Hi thanks Gozit. From what I read online after I made this post, I still have to apply for an I-94.

ESTA and the I-94W
Q:
If a VWP traveler has received ESTA approval, does he or she also need to fill out an I-94W?
A:
The implementation of the ESTA program allows DHS to eliminate the requirement that VWP travelers complete an I-94W prior to being admitted to the United States. CBP has transitioned to paperless processing for VWP travelers arriving by air or sea who have obtained an ESTA authorization. Most travelers entering the United States under the Visa Waiver Program who have an approved ESTA will no longer need to fill out the I-94W form, nor will a green I-94W departure card be placed in their passport. The I-94W form will still be required at the land border.

Yes, you can be nosey: my husband came before me and qualified under the 3/4 year rule. The kids were under 18 (one just 3 weeks off 18 and was actually asked to do an RCMP check!) so didn't need to meet the PP requirement. Then the rules changed so I got caught between the old rules and the present rules and essentially had to do the extra year.

You're probably right. I'm not much help having never entered the US on my non-Cdn PP. I remember though a couple years back when I first joined BE that was a frequently asked question and people who had ESTA didn't have to go to secondary when they got to the US on the land border.

And, that sucks :( likely by the time you finally get CC Trudeau will have reversed the changes to add salt to the wound.

Re: NEXUS card

Thank you. I qualify now and would rather make an application under these strict PP rules as there are fewer applications in process at the moment. Once the rules change, I'm imagining the flood gates will open.

With a valid ESTA it just makes printing the I94 waiver easier and you still pay the $6. You can use the NEXUS lane but will be sent in for further processing.

Brilliant thanks very much for clarifying. I just wanted to know the process before our trip.

Good point... Better to do it now before people start applying. On that note probably better I renewed my Cdn passport early before everyone started applying due to eTA.

Re: NEXUS card

We're going off topic but if anyone qualifies now, I reckon it's by far the better time to make the application. So many more people will qualify under the proposed new rules.

Anyway, back to Nexus, I can't wait to use my new card!

Yes!! I'm itching to use mine as we're going to Florida soon, to the detriment of my family as i'll have Precheck and they likely won't. :D (dont get to use it at the border due to family not having nexus and travelling in same car obviously, but I could still technically present it instead of my passport.)

Yes you can present your NEXUS card instead of your PP in the non NEXUS line. I did just that earlier today.

Called at the NEXUS office at The Whirlpool Bridge crossing to inform them of our change of status to Canadian PRs. It is only a small office but I was surprised how many people were there for appointments. We didn't have an appointment but were seen straight away...took about 15 minutes.

So in other words you are saying you received efficient and professional services from a Government Agency who employ dedicated workers to serve the public ;)
