We too looked at moving to Canada 20 years ago and then along came a new job and the first child and life passes you by as they say.

Good luck in your quest.
Hi, printer!

I asked that because here's Big Brother land, too, though it's called BBB (Big Brother Brasil).

We also have some mileage ourselves travelwise... But then, we're no longer as free as we once were. But you're right, better try to do it now than in 20 year's time.

Perhaps, but being a fairly easy place to go isn't quite the same as being the best city in the world. It's pretty hard to find anything about Toronto that makes it stand out from other cities so I wondered what YYZlover thought special about it.

Oh, boy, they didn't! Saw them live in 2004 here in São Paulo, and saw then back in 1988 in Blighty, twice! Sixteen years apart and they were as good as ever.

But then I'm a big fan, so no surprises in me finding them excellent, right?

I assume your first language isn't English. You write well but it's difficult to reconcile the idea of having English as a mother tongue and being able to sit through Rush.

Thanks for the compliment. You're right. English is not my first language, but I've been using it on a regular, if not daily, basis since 1988.

Why? Is it too noisy? Or you can't stand the lyrics?

Anyway, my musical taste is very wide... What do you like?

Oh, dbd33, you are so wrong.

Alex Lifeson lives in Florida, Neil Peart is splitting his time between LA and Toronto (as far as I know) and Geddy Lee is still in Toronto.

They are also still very active.

Never seen them live but I love their music.

I'm currently listening to Saga, another Toronto band. Latest CD is Trust.

Love it. My all time favorite band. I collect all their studio albums. Have everything they did that's been released on vinyl and then again on CD.

Am I the only one who sees the irony of associating Rush with Saga

And yeah, I know what you mean. It's a shame as it is one hell of a good band.

Cut's like a knife is as good as they come. When he broke Europe 2 years later I was just sat there going "get with the program!"

Edited to add: When he went all ballad and that I kind of started losing interest. Waking Up The Neighbours is really really good, though.

Never really was a fan of CSNY, especially Y. Haven't listened much to Tragically Hip, although they are in my list of bands to check out.

I loath the lyrics because, in the rare instances that they make any sense at all, they espouse the philosophy of the neo-facist Ayn Rand. They seem to me to be abhorent people with a gross inflated opinion of themselves, besides which their brand of pomp rock is tedious in the extreme.

Where are you on ELP, Jethro Tull and Uriah Heep?

Neil Young is so eclectic its hard not to find something to like. Weld is one of my favourate live albums of all time.

Anyway, hes yet another canadian who hit the big time and left for the US on the first available flight. Still a God in canada though.

Tragically Hip are for some reason considered the biggest/best live band in Canada... by plaidwearingbornincanadacanadians anyway.

Brian Adams notwithstanding. Least said, soonest mended.
