“It’s always been one of those markets that’s had a higher average price, but high average price in and of itself isn’t an indicator of overvaluation,” said CMHC chief economist Bob Dugan.

Well there you have it folks, the people who want you to borrow more money and put the risk on tax payers say everything's going to be alright.

What do you do for a job / work etc etc.

When I say a plumber, i usually get a response saying, I bet you make good money (this happens lot from women). Men will also say it. Though these days I tend to say any old career (I'm a Proctologists) just to have a laugh, ramble about any crap I know about the job I mentioned, just be a wind up and see if I get a funny response from the person that asked me the most boring question in the world.

You will also have adverts about plumbing as a career saying you can make a well over inflated salary, which isn't true. Unless you have your own business.

Hence why the above comments I have said to me and the ads Ive seen about plumbing make me laugh.

I'm petty sure you can pay yourself more if you have your own company.

[QUOTE=MrHyperPants;11688916]You tell me. [QUOTE]

$15 an hour

What do you do for a job / work etc etc.
Retired twice, thinking of trying it again, third time lucky. I got bored the first two attempts.

When I say a plumber, i usually get a response saying, I bet you make good money (this happens lot from women).
Perhaps they are hitting on you?

Men will also say it.
Maybe they are too?

Bummer eh! But what else would a proctologist talk about?

You will also have adverts about plumbing as a career saying you can make a well over inflated salary, which isn't true. Unless you have your own business.
So it is possible then.

Hence why the above comments I have said to me and the ads Ive seen about plumbing make me laugh.
One tries to find humour where one can, although you may want to consider humourous stories, rather than reading help wanted ads, I feel sure it would be more entertaining.

I'm petty sure you can pay yourself more if you have your own company.
for a variety of reasons, some do, some don't.

Yes, tears of joy in a London over the last 18 months. A few over-extended owners suffered, but most are sitting on healthy gains now.

Yes but it took around 6 years to return to pre dip prices. Most of the UK still hasn't recovered.

That's not true... Where I lived in Wales it never dipped and the market is strong and prices increasing from a stable position..

Its more than recovered on the SE of England. Having said that I dont agree with all these crazy swings in house value... it makes it next to impossible for newbies to get on the property ladder and those on it to feel rich.... until the next drop (that always seems to come)

Stability has got to be more preferable

That's true, but getoutofbritainquick's tears were for London.

The point is, barring meltdown as in Detroit, any major city is only going to rise over the medium to long term. Considering the massive affordability issues in 2007 followed by a severe credit crunch (something of a perfect storm) a six year dip is not that bad a downside.

Nope you're right, it's not THAT bad. But, the impact on people is much greater. For those who focus on property more than anything else regards to financial security (mainly because they're stretched and can't afford much else), that's 6 years lost. For those who need to sell it can be a life changing impact. Right now in Vancouver, it looks like risk is at an all time high but people's emotions tend not to see risk in bubbles such as this.

Scary!

We sold ours in 2011 for GBP305k, houses in that road of a similiar size and in similiar state (new kitchen, new bathrooms, extension, Victorian, big, large garden, blah blah blah) are now at GBP380k on Rightmove. We were advised we would not get over GBP310k if we were lucky when we sold as the market was "crashing" now they are all at the GBP380k+
That suggests that they have gone up to me
