Hardly would is say it was teh best place on earth....been back once, about 5 years ago. Also spent 4 months at Yarrows in Glasgow....sort of like Manchester but full of jocks..... Each to their own. I love the place, born and bred there, love the city, the country side, the lochs and mountains, the people - it's the best place for me, not everyone. |
Re: I've had enough!!
Ah well, guess my prediction came true. Was speaking with my manager today at work about an opportunity regarding Canada and was told "We don't know what's happening yet and its too early to tell. Its in the pipeline and you're at the top of the list for Canada, but for now, don't mention it again."
Charming. Guess I'll do things my way then!!! I knew there would be indecision around this, and get the feeling they don't want to talk about it. And I was even informed on the QT that one of the more senior managers even said, apparently "why the ***** does he want to go there anyway? What's wrong with here.".......so that's positive I guess ahah!! |

Shootings and murders in Toronto People stabbed on a bus in Vancouver Animal cruelty in Vancouver Economy wavering in Canada People killed in landslide in BC Lots of focus on the weather, complaining about some areas being rubbish Young girl seriously injured after being run over in Vancouver Funeral of toddler run over and killed Vancouver Fella in court for abducting young boy Honda recalling a crap load of cars Traffic report shows its ****ing busy and backed up everywhere I think I'll turn the news off. It's depressing. |

It's depressing. You know, I think I would rather deal with a few bored teens in the town centre scheming how they're gonna nick a chocolate bar than risk being shot at a friends BBQ! Gun crime here is increasing and I'm not comfortable with it. If I wanted to be in gun hell, I would've moved to the states! |
Re: I've had enough!!
The limited news i've seen on the telly in Vancouver this morning shows:
A stabbing in Surrey, Vancouver. Traffic is very very busy and looks a nightmare The Hells Angels are opening a new chapter somewhere in Surrey, Vancouver A biker ****ed himself up by riding on the highway in shorts and a t-shirt, then crashing. Six bikers have crashed and died around Vancouver so far this year. A massive shooting and mass murder in a US cinema The poor dog i mentioned above died Some complaining about the weather An elderly war veteran was robbed in his home by teenagers A Drunk Driver in Abbortsford fell asleep at the wheel with his kids in the car Shit, i'd be looking to move if i watched or read about this stuff every day. |

It's not all bad news on the pet front. That guy who had to leave his pet cat and dog behind when he was rescued after his boat broke went out and found them. They do like their pet news here. |

These days, everything here in the UK just seems to be all doom and gloom. There seems to be little joy in anything wherever I look and I think i've had enough.
I look around on here and I read all these posts from people who have made the journey to pursue their dreams of moving abroad and I feel somewhat envious. One of my friends moved across to Canada, Calgary about 9/10 months or so ago with his Canadian girlfriend (now fiance as they are engaged) and he's loving the life he's setup for himself there. I don't face the same hurdles that many people here face in moving to Canada. I'm already a Canadian citizen courtesy of my grandfather, so I just need to fly there, get off the plane and find a job. So what the heck am I still doing here??? Sorry about the rant thread guys, I just needed to have a vent and say a few things. Need to get out of here and get myself to the Great White North!! Better get my CV updated pronto then and start putting out employment queries!! Actually, I'm pretty happy back here, but I don't get back across the pond nearly as often as I'd like. Are the kebab shops on Bridge Street still as good as they were? ;) |

Believe it or not, you're currently sitting in the best country in the world! imo - i'd trade countries with you in a heartbeat - the grass isn't always greener - but seems you have nothing to lose, so hop on that plane and come see for yourself. What's the worst that can happen? you don't like it and go back.
Don't live with regret:) please give us some reasons on why Britain is the best country, it might make me stay in the land of my forefathers. |

The Canadian economy is doing better than the UK, but its hardly paradise for job seekers. Come for the experience, like University. I enjoyed University life, and a degree here is almost a requirement for many entry level jobs. But canadian employers also value experience too. New graduates have an unfortunate habit of thinking they know everything, it takes a few years before you realise the truth:) |
