There is no need for such nastiness and insensitivity on this forum. We're here to help each other through a process of adaptation to a new life.

I'm all for adapting to a new way of life in a new country, but there will always be things that I miss about the UK - Paxo stuffing, Bisto granules, pub grub, rugby, etc - but that doesn't mean I'm not 'making a go of it' here in Canada. Neither does it mean I'm thinking in the past or wishing I was elsewhere.

To all those people who like to shoot others down for their opinions, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE! Accept that just cos' you've lived here for 10 years or 10 minutes, it does not give you the right to put others down for their opinions or feelings! If you've given up on the UK so much and adopted the Canadian lifestyle, why are you on this forum???? Why keep any contact with British people?

When you've lived somewhere for 20-30 years and move elsewhere, you don't just shut off that portion of your memory and thought processes. Of course as humans we look back - our experiences in the past make us who we are.

So let's just think before we post nasty replies to people that put others down! As I said, we're here to support each other in what for many will be the biggest thing they ever do in life.

Rant over!

Very well said!! Haven't been on here for a while for this exact reason. I agree that it is possible to live a happy life and integrate into the Canadian culture and still yearn for Jaffa Cakes, Thorntons chocolates and shopping in Sainsburys.

I completely agree with you! There are too many High Horses out there. Everyones emmigration experience is different - moving within a country is unsettling for the 1st year so a new country where everything is different is super stressfull - y'know a jumper is a dress not a woolly pully, a bloke has never been heard of - and watch the puzzled face when you say fortnight or gearbox or jacket potato!

There are lots of foodstuffs I miss because I have always cooked with them on a gas cooker! I now have an electric cooker and lots of the ingredients I usually use are missing from the shops. It's silly things like bouquet garnis and gravy granuals and a different type of cooker that make a cooking experience a disaster zone :scared: If it hadn't been for my Hamilton Beach hot plate thingy and hamburger helpers we would have starved for the 1st 3 months - then we got a GAS BBQ (I can cook with gas :D :D ) Now 10 months after our arrival I have started learning :D how to cook on electric! The next house we get WILL have a gas line to the kitchen so I can have GAS! IT'S OKAY TO MISS STUFF - We brought mintrels with us for a friend that has been here for over 20 years - they don't ewant to go "home" either!

Anyhow I shall get off my soapbox as I have weightwatchers in a bit - Too many Hamburger Helpers :D
