Neither does it mean I'm thinking in the past or wishing I was elsewhere. To all those people who like to shoot others down for their opinions, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE! Accept that just cos' you've lived here for 10 years or 10 minutes, it does not give you the right to put others down for their opinions or feelings! If you've given up on the UK so much and adopted the Canadian lifestyle, why are you on this forum???? Why keep any contact with British people? When you've lived somewhere for 20-30 years and move elsewhere, you don't just shut off that portion of your memory and thought processes. Of course as humans we look back - our experiences in the past make us who we are. So let's just think before we post nasty replies to people that put others down! As I said, we're here to support each other in what for many will be the biggest thing they ever do in life. Rant over! Many thanks for expressing this so well. Take care, Sarah |

Maybe once you have lived in Canada for 30 years you are more Canadian than you are British in your outlook and don't really understand how today's British immigrants feel. I don't believe I'm being judgemental or shooting anyone down directly by telling a faction on this forum to lay off people who may be feeling fragile and wish to reminisce about things from the UK that may help them to cope with being in a foreign country. I was referring to those individuals who immediately shoot folks down for making a simple comment about something they miss from home - if you'd been around on this forum long enough you would know that there have been many people who've held back from posting due to nasty comments made by some and others who haven't come back. Take it or leave it. |

I've hardly read any posts for quite some time now and I rarely come on here anymore:
Such a lot of bickering goes on; such a lot of cr*p is spoken by people who appear to be on a different planet to the rest of us; such a lack of friendliness; such a lot of "I know better than you.......even though I still live in the UK and have visited Canada for 20 minutes in the whole of my lifetime"; such a lot of smart-asses who live here and think they know everything about everyone's situation or location; such a lot of plain nasty people; such a lot who take every opportunity to put down anyone who disagrees with them; such a lot of miserable and ignorant gits; I miss the nice friendly people who are helpful, provide thoughtful reasoning combined with interesting debates - of course this sector of the forum are the majority, but as always, the minority shouts loudest. I do wonder why some people even bother to come on here anymore. I used to feel that as I was helped so much by some lovely people on here, that it was now my turn to help others as I may have some useful information or experience to pass onto those who are still in the process, or at the start of their life-changing experience, but lately I have no idea what is going on here .......... hence my semi-retirement from this place. I enjoy the PM's some of you guys send me and I love to hear how everyone is getting on, but to be frank, on the occasional visits into this forum, fills me with wonder. I have a fantastic life here in Canada; I wouldn't change anything for the world, although if anyone wants to donate a REAL Cadbury's Whole Nut and a packet of Dark Chocolate Homewheat then I won't say no! The point is, my real life is so darned good, that coming on here is like reading Nostra Damus! Anyway, well said Trish - you are right everyone should be entitled to have their say without fear of someone jumping down their throat and telling them what they should feel or what they should eat or how they should lead their lives. Everyone is unique - can't we all just accept that and let those who wish to wallow, enjoy their wallowing; and those who are living on air and excitement, flourish? |
