Flying back to the UK on Saturday - What to expect?
#46

It isn't secret. There will be lots of other people there, like my Mum.
Anyway, I am an independent woman and if I want to eat a pie, I am going to.
Sadly, my waistline will be a lot less forgiving than my husband, I can say that for sure.

Sadly pork pie is my downfall too, I think I ate one (at least) every day I was back last summer..... Don't tell anyone, but when DH went back on his own 2 years ago he brought one back for me in his luggage.... I didn't ask him to!

If this is true, I probably won't be able to find a pork pie, which might be just as well.
I am not going to risk smuggling one home in my suitcase, anyway.
What if I ended up being met at the border by a stickler like formerlancastrian?
They might revoke my PR, or worse still, they might confiscate the pork pie

I have really taken against you all for discussing Pork Pie in quite such detail. I am now 'in a state'....I can now think of one thing, and one thing only!
Must Have Pork Pie
I demand that you eat one for me too Helcat!

It won't just be the suitcase that is significantly heavier on the return flight.

In some way, I suppose I am worried I will like being back too much.
In some way, I am worried I won't like it at all!
I am worried I will no longer be able to gel with people who I have known for years.
I am worried that all our lives have moved on and we no longer have anything in common.
I have always been bad at "going back" events, though. I don't like Old Girls' Guild reunions and that sort of thing. I just like to move on.
Anyway, the time approaches.
Does online check-in make any difference at all?
I just got an e-mail about it.

I can check in up to 24 hours in advance.

Make sure you obey all the signs at the airport.

Well the pies don't meet the entry requirements so Yes we would confiscate them. Now how that pork pie is destroyed is left to the imagination

See my previous post about the divine

I cannot face putting myself through the agony of thinking such thoughts again.
(Putting egg in the middle makes it into a Gala pie, which is a whole different beast and not nearly so good, even though I like a nice boiled egg in the right context.)

No idea what you should expect (other than Royal baby fever which seems to have consumed the country), but I just had to say that this thread has had me in stitches! And if you find yourself anywhere near Berkshire, feel free to pop in for a cuppa (and a slice of pork pie obviously).
Enjoy your trip.
