Re: Exchange rate
Well the fed cut the rate by .50 bp (hope thats the correct terminology) do any aspiring Gordon Geckos(sp?) have any idea how that may affect the exchange rate if at all? Its still going down I thought it might have gone up just a little bit or should I just shut up and stay out of it !!!

Re: Exchange rate
I think that might be a rate that hasn't been updated. See yahoo for real-time rates... http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/currency...submit=Convert

Re: Exchange rate
sorry been really busy tonight. yes the Fed cut by 50bp as i said i hoped last week....however last couple of days everyone within the markets been saying they could only do 25bp, had me wondering if i had read things wrong. If it wasn't for the on going crisis within the UK banking sector this would be very positive for the rate....however at the moment it doesn't matter what happens elsewhere, the weakness is in sterling and will continue to be the case for at least a couple of weeks. Blame Northern Rock!!!

Hey, no matter how bad things seem, remember some people are much worse off than you... I have just seen this remarkable headline on the BBC website's business page:
"Zimbabwean inflation falls to 6,592.8%"

Re: Exchange rate
I am so glad that we haven't sold the house yet, and luckily for the sake of working thigs out in my head costwise for when we go in October I just use 2 to 1 so not overly worried there.

Re: Exchange rate
Exactly what we did a few months ago. Did the budget on $2 and anything above that went towards new TV etc. Seemed the safest way of doing it.

Re: Exchange rate
You got something like 2.08 as I recall - so what TV did you get!? Did you go for the 60" Plasma? (they had a very nice one in Costco the other day)

Re: Exchange rate
There was an interesting post on another site today with a City guy predicting a big sell-off of speculative interest in the Canadian dollar once it hits 1:1 with the US dollar. Certainly I think it's overvalued right now, though that's no guarantee it won't rise even further against the pound in the next few months!
