i know here in Ontario and I suspect the rest of Canada too, school leaving age is 18 and compulsory through grade 12. i know as I have had some issues with a disgruntled 16 year old who opted to return to Uk to do six form, then circumstances forced his early return and he did not want to go back to school, but had to as it is compulsory. He was able to go back to the Uk to do six form as his dad was still in Uk trying to sell the house at the time and we had prepared him well by getting him to sit his GCSEs a year early at 15, so with seven passes A-C he was permitted to go back for A levels, but sadly had to come back to Canada when house sold and his friend could not accomodate him.

And just checking, but I assume you know that you can't work until you get PR (or a TWP in your own right) either?

Yes, Temporary Work Permit.
If in doubt, ask the Wiki!

I would try and get your PR asap. I think truck driving is now on the list as whereby before it wasn't (not been keeping up with it though so sure someone else can confirm). My brother-in-law went out to Edmonton on a TWP with his wife whilst waiting for their PR to come through, he drove to Saskatoon every week for work and came back at weekends, needless to say he got fed up of that job! My sister-in-law wasn't allowed to work until they got their PR through.
I also knew some people that went out to Calgary, not a trucker but a plumber, they were on a TWP and the wife and the son could not work, it drove them mad.... 6 weeks later they were back in the UK! Maybe your son can do chores to earn money from you guys until your PR comes through to have his own money, clearing the snow etc.

Was your husband not aware of the limitations of the visa before he left? Does he qualify under the long haul trucker stream I gave you earlier?

If you mean the Skilled Worker list then no, truck driver doesn't qualify as it's not a skilled occupation. So the only option for the OP and her family to get PR is the PNP, if he's a long haul trucker and qualifies.
