Is Canadian TV crap? Yes/No

What is Canada's beef with HBO again? I read about it a while back and have forgotten. Too good? Too American?

Of course..that leaves precious little on to watch between 8 and 11 as a result... but my sax playing has improved considerably as a result.

"Bowling for Columbine" made me reconsider watching the numerous fear mongering murder/mayhem shows coming to our living rooms, and I have to say I find life quite pleasant with out all that stuff thrown at me.
That said I do own some of the better TV shows on DVD.

After seeing that film we stopped locking the doors to the house. Michael Moore was right, you don't have to lock them in Canada.

Good life, busier but less "background noise".

Didn't read all the threads today-
But what with CSI, Corner Gas, Corrie, Food Network, HGTV, Ocassional Movies, and EPL, CL, There is plenty to watch everynight and all for $29.99 a month.
Failing the lack of "good" T.V. we could always get a life.

In other words: is the choice of programs shown in Canadian TV crap? (we are not talking about the quality of canadian made programmes here)
My vote: Yes
Why: too many adverts, very few films, dummies/mononeuron barbies (Cindy?) reporting the news on CTV, hour long features to discuss 30 second events on CBC, documentaries only on PBS if you are lucky or Discovery when they are not showing 'Monster Cars'... do not even get me started on Much Music, next time I am in Toronto I may enact that fantasy where I egg pellett the big window behind the presenters or show a big board along the lines 'PLAY SOME MUSIC FOR ONCE other than 50 Cent et. al.'.
Having said that, I am becoming a fan of the varied CBC radio, and Halifax has a good radio station variety. Also, I am reading a lot more books!
Luckily we got Torchwood (in a nice Cardiff accent) via recordable DVD at Christmas... for now I will live on Holmes on Homes and The Weather Network when I am not catching up on books or planning my garden.
Cheers

Yes it’s very bad!! if I see the same repeat on CBC one more time im going to bang my head off the wall and im not just talking them repeating commercials!
I remember people used to complain about the BBC and having to pay the TV licence, I;d rather pay a few hundred $ a year for the BBC here (Tv lisence) than $40 a month for utter trash tv like we get here in Canada

Re: Is Canadian TV crap? Yes/No
Only time will tell for me.
Last Friday, back in UK I watched Coronation Street. Now I am in NS the next eposide, in sequence to that one, will be September
We have Shameless on TV here tonight. Now that is a well written piece of gritty drama! Wouldn't have thought that Canadians would have been quite ready for the Gallagher family yet :scared:
