Oops, my bad :o.... well only last year was the first really white Christmas anyway, and the year before it came just after didn't it????
Seriously having checked 'Steves Site' it does appear that 2008 was the first TRUE white Christmas for both of us. That said There were traces of the white stuff around the city in 2006 and in 2007 and 2008 I was skiing on Christmas morning so it would have looked like a white christmas to me ;) |

Since Christmas 1974 my first of 34 in Calgary we have had 18 (53%) with either no snow on the ground or just a trace of snow. We have had 23 (67.5%) Christmas's with the high temperature above 0°C We have had 14 (41%) Christmas's with the high temperature above 5°C We have had 5 (14.7%) Christmas's with the high temperature above 10°C Cheers Steve |
Re: Calgary winters.....brrrrr!!!
It can get really cold for a few days here and there, but it's really not that bad for any length of time like it is further east...and it's sunny through the winter. I personally really look forward to it. Outdoor skating, snowboarding, snowshoeing and winter walks around the city. LOVE IT!!!

Re: Calgary winters.....brrrrr!!!
I think you can only really love a Canadian winter if you don't have to work outdoors in it. Picking and choosing to go skiing, skating, walking is very different from spending 10hrs come what may in whatever the day throws at you.

Re: Calgary winters.....brrrrr!!!
lots of expats living in Calgary appear to put a really brave face on it ; 'it's not too bad if you dress properly ' but yet a million miles from what most people are used too - am from the North of Scotland but still the difference is night and day (dampness, dry cold arguments aside) am talking low end temperatures - okay so everyone seems to love skiing (myself included) but this is only really a pastime for majority of us at the weekends, so rest of the week, it's cold and uncomfortable, you only need to take a walk thru a suburban neighbourhood on a dark winters night after 7pm to appreciate that TV hibernation has set in, i've been out with the dog for almost an hour without seeing another living soul
i've been here 3 years almost to the day, but i would have had 2nd thoughts if i known what (and how long) the winters were like |

cheers Butch, yeah was thinking that when i was writing it, but at least you'll see kids shooting hoops, people gardening, washing cars etc in the summer, there's neighbours (esp with garage at front houses) we won't see for 6mths
Honestly how many people did you see out in the UK after 7 on a december night? I think the biggest problem really in Calgary is the front attached Garage;) |

Now?:frown::thumbdown::banghead: All you see is row upon row of garage doors, dull and extremely boring. It was a major consideration for us when we purchased our present home in 1987. |
