There are a few threads where it's been mentioned.

I know there are loads of call centre jobs, there's a casino coming and there are quite a few government offices, lots of retail and IT related things. Airport, a few industrial estates.

Moncton is experiencing a bit of a boom...lots of new commercial building going on and all the stuff associated with that.

I suppose a job vacancy list would look less impressive than other places, but the population is smaller too, so opportunity may be much the same as other places.

One of the things I keep saying comes back to property prices. You've now seen what $350k will buy.

If one has $350k, one could consider buying for less, but still great. Look at this or this for example.

With the rest of the money one could also buy a rental, like those here

The income from renting may open up a whole load of employment options - perhaps one can take the lower paid, but less stressful and closer to home position. Or even part time.

It's quite liberating.

Those house's are incredible for the price. Well with what we'd budgeted for a nice property in Calgary, we could certainly buy a main home and several rentals at those prices!

Thanks Ruby, I'll remember not to have the basement refurbished ;)

As for the DUI's, wow that has surprised me!

What does "intellectual prowess" have to do with talkboard posting?

Our neighbour collects the bottles thrown from passing trucks and returns them to the liquor store; he says he gets $5 or so each weekend. Since the bottle deposit varies between 5 and 15 cents we can say that drinking at the wheel (and littering) is common here.

Ok db, now would that be "generalising" across Canada? ;)

I'll leave it open to interpretation dbd33. But suffice to say, you have scrutinised my post and unsurprisingly, you have surfaced. Does it resonate a little?

"here" - 3rd Line, Melancthon. Also Red Deer apparently. Drunk driving is usual everywhere I've been in Canada and most people here who drink will also have a joint but I expect there are places where it doesn't happen. Bountiful BC, probably has less drunk driving.

It made no sense to me so I sought clarification. Does it mean anything or is it just random big words?

Unfortunately, no! It is a Canada-wide issue. Because, mostly, there are no 'walking-distance' pubs to go to, and the bars are so spread apart and taxis are expensive here....many, many choose to drive. I've lived in SW Ontario, Alberta & BC and I've seen the same beer cans and bottles in the ditches.

Exactly. But let's not be greedy, one or two would do.;)

It's true that a huge majority do drive but I'm not sure drunk driving is a big problem here. I've been impressed with drivers. They slow down at junctions, always follow that 4 way stop rule...even being allowed to turn right when the pedestrian has right of way doesn't seem to be a problem

On my bike when I'm waiting to pull out of a side street drivers continually stop to let me out - perhaps that's because they are so mellow with the drugs or booze. ;)

As a non driver I occasionally take a taxi. I find them really cheap. Fares could mount up if drivers put the charges on for extra passengers or bags but they rarely do.

When you consider the subjects this thread has covered, and we're now on page 12 debating "drive by" beer cans being tossed in a ditch!

It sure is a long way from a "Bittersweet Christmas" thread! ;)

Laughable really :)

It sure is! I see the odd beer can here, but it's mostly discarded Tim Hortons cups or coke cans. If there were as many as in dbd's area, I'd be out there very day to make some extra cash! I walk 5 - 7 km a day in my area, and happily don't see too many beer cans.
