I imagine some folks either, 'purposely forget' or 'fail to remember' why they left the UK in the first place to the promises of a better life elsewhere for themselves & their family - then go on about 'wanting to move back home'

Not just talking about Brits, others also have the ability to move on & out, while others would be unable to do so.

Oh to be British & to have that freedom to move about when it doesn't work out, or that they can ping pong, even make the move back home & settle right in.

So many choices, easy decision, less waffling & get on with it.

Its because I'm a less contumacious and a more chilled groovetastic poster these days, baby.

But it suited you

As I am moving back to the UK on Sunday, maybe you could change it back, just for one day, just for me. Think of it as a kind of leaving present that won't cost any money

People genuinely forget. There has been some psychological research supporting the idea that we all tend to filter out the negative and disproportionately recall the positive aspects of our past.

Really? I do the opposite. I blame Schopenhauer.

My wife and I moved from Manchester and spent 7 years in Toronto. We then moved back to the UK with our 2 young daughters who had both been born in Canada. We spent 2 years in London before leaving again. We initially wanted to return to Canada but I heard on the grapevine about a good job opportunity in the US instead and we've been here for the past 17 years.

I wouldn't say we regretted the move back to the UK. Looking back, it seems like it was something we had to get out of our system. It was good being back near family and friends and we had a great time living in the UK. There are many aspects of life there that I miss. However, we gradually realized that we would prefer to bring our kids up in North America.

I can't say for certain that I would never move back to the UK. I've always enjoyed my visits back there. In fact, I just got back from a 2 week visit to Northern Ireland where I was born & raised. I had a great time visiting family, old stomping grounds, and bumping into a few old friends.

I think I could live quite happily in the UK, Canada or the US. I just choose to live in the US for now. But that might change in the future depending on various factors.
