This petition, complete with the glaring spelling mistake, was a private initiative but at least someone tried to do something on your behalf. So don't knock them. The Canadian Alliance of British Pensioners, of which I am the N.S. coordinator, is also fighting this blatent discrimination and has been doing so since 2005. The case is to be heard in the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg later this year. According to our legal team we have a very strong case and there is every reason to believe that we will win and that the UK government will be forced to rectify this situation. Annual increases are usually in the region of 3% to 5% and this adds up over the years. I can only urge everyone, regardless of age, to check out the CABP website. There is a link from this site <www.britishpensions.com>. It is in the interest of EVERYONE who has worked in UK to do so because you have a vested interest. We are totally volunteer organization and there are no hidden agendas. The stated aim of CABP is to overturn this ripoff. Membership is just $20 a year and for that you get your name on the docket at TCofHR, a quarterly publication outlining changes and other items of interest and lots of expert advice on claiming and maximizing you future state pension. There are imminent changes to the criteria for buying back years and you should all check these out so that you can maximize you State Pension at minimum cost. You've paid for it and you are entitled to it. All we want is this discrimination to end. Please join us and help us to put a stop to this. You may think that pension information is only for old folks but the younger you are the easier it will be to maximize you entitlement by buying more years. It's easy to say pull out the popcorn etc. However, it's your entitlement and apathy won't help. CABP is working for all UK state pension recipients, present and future.

It would be very much in your interest. There will be big changes in April 2010 and depending on the class of contribution you can make you might be very surprised at what you will recieve. Chaeck it out.

Why don't you campaign to end index linking for all pensioners abroard and perhaps also those in the UK? This would address the perceived injustice and is more likely to be accepted by the government and the public at large.

Some would. I know a couple who came to Canada 53 years ago after contributing for about 4 years, and they are the biggest complainers regarding the non index linking. They must have paid about a shilling a week in National Insurance contributions at that time and they have had that back many times over.

I too know a couple who upon hearing that others were getting something/anything they would apply too in the hopes of cashing in.

It's not like they needed it, they ran a successful business in Edmonton and retired to Vancouver Island, pathetic really.
