I think this is an interesting thread badge. My Mum says she has become invisible, but I think she has let herself become invisible.
Her once dark hair is dyed a non-descript beige blond shade and her clothes are "safe" and bland at times. She worries that if she goes too glam she will be seen as mutton but there is a happy medium.
My M-I-L is 61 and is far from invisible. She is trendy (but not mutton) and attractive with a young outlook on life and it makes all the difference.

I'm 51. I have discovered that Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirts solve any invisibility problems. :)

I agree with the beige comment. Emulating a mushroom is not a good look.

Also, why do older women insist on a short back and sides? There are few people who can carry off that pixie look.

I think I will find it very distressing to become invisible but at the same time I'd hate to be "mutton dressed as lamb". But i'll cross that bridge when I come to it! I might start wearing red lipstick or something.

Oh 'the haircut' - our boys at work refer to it as the 'Lesbian Haircut' for some reason, whenever we get this particular older lady in, they say 'the one with the lesbian haircut'

That is the one thing I spend money on - my hair. I have a salon I go to and yes it costs, but I am not going to dye my own hair, I wont get a 'mate down the road' to cut it to save money, I get it done properly because to me it makes a big difference.

Or maybe it's happening now and I'm just blissfully unaware? Way too self-absorbed to realise.

After years of being a white face (or an ang moh kow - red haired monkey) in an asian country, I like being what's termed an "invisible expat" anyway.

Funnily enough I feel more invisible in Singapore than I do in the UK/Oz. In Singapore I'm the fattest woman they have ever seen (*) and am surrounded by long-haired skinny young girls wearing very few clothes. In the UK/Oz I'm a generously-sized reasonably turned out mature person.

(* Not for much longer though :D)

Although I do have a lesbian haircut (have had it since I was about 20) and I dye my own hair as I do a better job than the salon.

I also wear comfortable shoes, so I'm probably doomed........

On ya! A girl I knew attributed her youth and good looks - she could pass for 10 years younger easily - to her hairdresser..lots of biccies for him..

The main problem that older women have in trying to look younger, is that they dress 'tarty' thinking that makes them look young & desirable - it doesn't.

Also, the hair... dyeing your hair peroxide blonde makes you look OLD.

Actually, looking at what I am wearing now (jeans, Adidas trainers, Hong Kong Phooey t-shirt), I am in no position to give sartorial advice to the over 40s :D
