Yup, I've experienced that. I fit the age and gender criteria (unfortunately). It's dependent on where I am but I'm definitely extremely invisible at work.

I'm currently contracting again (been there four months this time) in a mammoth open-plan office which is mainly staffed by people in their late twenties, early thirties. The people I actually deal with on a regular basis are OK but a lot of the others are downright rude. They never make eye-contact, they look away if they do happen to catch my eye and they wouldn't speak in a million years. And these are people who've seen me every day for four months . And the women are much worse than the blokes.

And I never wear beige ;). I'm one of the few people in the place who wears colours - most of the girls wear ghastly, dreary black outfits day in, day out..

I've always pictured you as a real beauty, Nicky. One of those women for whom life is never any issue - for whom age is nothing.

I'm late forties so I guess I've got this to look forward to

Or maybe it's happening now and I'm just blissfully unaware? Way too self-absorbed to realise.

After years of being a white face (or an ang moh kow - red haired monkey) in an asian country, I like being what's termed an "invisible expat" anyway.

It's nothing to worry about. People under 35 don't know what they're talking about. So it's no big loss.

Never thought about it! Anyone understand, or have first-hand experience of this or even commit the crime without realising?

I avoid invisibility by thrusting myself in ones face. Difficult to avoid.

Sounds perfect to me. Last thing I want is people looking at me or trying to start some spurious conversation in a lift, or some idiot on a plane trying to talk to me.

So get me that invisibility cloak now!

I dont feel invisible, Im nearly 43 but dont feel invisible - yet.

I get invited out by my work pals and am seen as 'one of the gang'. I think I sort of blend in really as although I dont stand out, I am not invisible but I know how to have a laugh and enjoy myself so perhaps people see that instead.

No matter how old I am, I will always try and take care of myself, get my hair done etc. But invisibility I suspect could pounce at any time at my age.

Nope. I'm female, nearly 50 and am anything but invisible.
