Hi

After looking some posts here, i am sorry but not able to stop myself asking 2 quick questions. Any suggestions & info is appreciated.

1) Why there is always Indians who are getting attacked in Australia? There are huge crows of other asian nationalities like Chinese, Japanese, Lebanese, East Asians, Vietnamese etc. But most attacks were happened in Indians? Any specific reason for that or the attackers dont like curry at local Indian restaurant?

2) There are more Indian migrants in Canada then Australia, there are more students in the USA then Australia, but why it is Australia where such attacks are happening almost twice in a week since last 1 year? I think there are no difference between indians who are migrating to canada & australia, they are still Indians but they are not so vastly attacked yet in Canada.

I am looking for your valuable suggestions/information.

Because there are Indians in Australia.

The population of Melbourne, per the 2006 Census, was 1,038,430.
Indian population of Melbourne, per the 2006 Census, was 50,686

Total crime at 2,628 per 100,000 would mean that there would have been 1,332 assaults against Indians purely by the law of averages, without any extra causes.

There were 1,447 reported cases of robbery and assault against Indians [in Melbourne] in 2008-2009.

Not far off the same rate as everyone else.


The normal murder rate in Melbourne is 7.4 murders per 100,000 population, and there are about 56,000 Indians living in Melbourne.
By the law of averages, Indians can therefore expect about 3 to 4 Indians to be murdered each year in Melbourne.

Are Indians supposed to be exempt from being victims of crime ?
Is it only other nationalities and Australians that should suffer crime. ?

Not at all as far as they are member of australian society now they may also face it.

But the question is still stands there, there was not much and significant attacks against other asian nationalities instead of Indians? Can you pls. enlighten us why? :confused:

What makes you say there aren't ?

First the Indians say they are attacked more than anyone else, but when it is shown they are about the same, they say they are attacked more than other Asians, but with no evidence to show it

How do you know there aren't attacks against others?
Because attacks on Indians are a talking point at the moment they will be reported because the media knows it will sell papers and make people watch tv etc.
I am sure there are just as many attacks against other nationalities.

In fact there have been lots of attacks and beatings on Irish people recently in Oz but that doesn't mean there is a campaign against the Irish, it is just the way it happens.
I am sure the media will move on to attacks against africans or chinese next year.

If any others have been attacked in such high numbers, then why it is not showing in this entire forum or elsewhere like on internet, australian newspapers etc.? :cool: :rolleyes:

There are the other nationalities aren't so quick to play the race card, plenty of attacks on all people including the other groups you mention.

Fact.

In fact I'd say the worst violence of the lot is probably between either The Serbs v Croats.... The Greeks V the Macedonians or The Turks V The Lebanese.... I've probably got the right order on that as well. The Soudanese and Lebanese like to attack Australians at times.

However no one else calls the race card in quite the same way as the Indians.... as everyone realises it's a minority of these groups that carry on like pork chops.

Please let us know what you are basing this view on?

I suspect that it is not based on any real evidence; you have simply watched a couple of Indian news stories and read a couple of indian local rags.

Maybe because the numbers are not high in relation to the average, and maybe the other nationalities realise that it is stupid to say that "as they are being attacked in the same ratio as everyone else, it must be racist"

The only ones that are saying that "to be attacked in the same ratio as everyone else must be racist", is the Indians. Why ?

byproduct of the caste system would be the answer IMO - a built-in system of inequality, which defines perception of any person or their actions based on what level in the game they are at. So an average person seems to be *expecting* to be treated differently by others on the basis of their origin alone - which is may be why the circumstances around the incidents are typically vague, when the race is stuck out like a sore thumb.
