What would you do?

I can just imagine the scene:
"E're guvnor, Carol Decker's just been in 'ere breathing all funny going on about a lens. It proper put the willys up me it did."
Why the camera lens sales guy in the Blue Mountains is a Cockney is anybodys guess, but the rest is sound!

My Solicitor Rocks!
Well after a few days of legal wrangling, I am extremely relieved and happy to report that the vendors have backed off and put their house back on the market.
They threatened to take us to court for their costs, which included a recent rental they've taken on, plus all their moving and conveyancing costs. Sadly for them, they made a small error, which was not disclosing the road upgrade from the very start. This actually breaches Section 19 of the Conveyancing Act, for those of you who may find yourselves in the same position.
Section 19 basically says that if the vendors don't disclose something in the contract, which you then later find out and which makes a difference to your decision to buy, then you have absolute right to change your mind.
I've found this whole thing pretty stressful to be honest, and meanwhile, we've been unable to get our whacking great deposit back from the agent, but a phone call a few minutes ago told us they'd backed down legally, as they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on.
The RTA guy and the conveyancer will both get bottles of bubbly and I'm going to pop the fizz tonight.
Bit weird, celebrating NOT buying a house, but in the meantime, we've found others to look at and will have a slight pause before we leap into anything else.
Thanks for all the support you guys. Really astronomically great advice and help.
If you could just wrap your arms around yourselves and give yourselves a big hug from me, that'd be great.

I'd like to GG, but I'm going slow as my OH is feeling a little 'delicate' after all this stuff. I think he needs a bit of a break from it all. I'm a 'get back on the bike straight away' sort of person but he's not, so I need to make sure he gets a bit of head time.
I don't think it will go anywhere fast.
I'd like to be out before winter though. Rental houses suck!

It gives me great satisfaction to know that they rented a house in the meantime, put a deposit down and now owe rent on it, plus having to have everything professionally packed and stored.
Serves them right.

Only just happened upon this thread iPom and so pleased at the final outcome. Poor you though. I hope the other part of your life is improving and sorting itself out and I hope you get that deposit back from the agents. Keep strong girl.

Um, perhaps. Serve them right. They deliberately witheld information in the hope that when we found out, we'd just swallow the mistake and continue.
