Wait till you get out here and you have to deal with Telstra. They make BT, Virgin and SKY look exceptionally good.

As for the TV... You will miss it after the first hour of watching Aussie TV.

Oh so true. If I ever move back I will NEVER moan about BT, or about TV licences, ever again!!

I know most of this does happen in Australia, but it's nice to have a small break from it all.

EDIT: Just one more.. I will not miss Cheryl Bleedin' Cole or that twat of an excuse of a husband. I DONT CARE, I dont want too see them on telly all the time or the papers or magazines or even mentioned to me in the street.

See, I don't get comments like this at all. What happens if that first hour is a showing of a good programme from the BBC, or SBS?

I take it you are talking about the worst offerings from the tabloid channels where the first hour would or could annoy. You probably did mean this, but that does not help new migrants...!

It probably just applies to people who rely on TV for entertainment.

Talk about conducting your own character assassination!

But you never know, it might all come together and they'll get a new lease of life. I like to think that many migrants do get a ripper deal...and stay clear of many UK issues they didn't like..

I don't miss the following:

1. The 114 bus that takes me to Mill Hill Broadway - I hate it, I hate sitting on it and feeling intimidated as I am not covering up to the self appointed 'moral police' that always seemed to be on it when I was, hissing at me and abusing me. Well I am sorry but I do not 'do' veils and would rather eat my head than wear one.

2. Mill Hill Broadway station, bloody hate it - dark, dingy, depressing, intimidating.

3. The local shopping centre to us, hated it and I especially hated the shop assistant in Next who would always display her camel toe, have those horrible large hoopy earrings and chew gum noisily as she served us, while looking totally bored. Miserable shop assistants, yes their job is hard for not alot of money but I would rather someone fake interest and ask if I am having a good day than some bloody 'Moesha' bitch or whatever she calls herself in Next chew her gum like the world owes her designer knickers.

4. Tesco/Marks and Spencers and Sainsburys - can't stand them

5. Trying to get in to see my GP

6. Bomb scares on the London underground

7. Travelling to Holborn every day - one mainline train and two tube trains, lots of shoving.

8. Blowing black stuff out of my nose after a day at work and then coughing up a bit to add to it.

9. Feeling too scared to do anything when the bus gets rowdy and the bus driver has to call for help. Frequent occurance from Heathrow airport to Harrow. And yes, I know it happens in Australia but I dont give a shit, I am talking about the UK and the fact it happens in Australia is not on my agenda because I like living where I do now and not where I did.

10. Gypsies/pikies I dont care what you call them - I hate them, loathe them, detest them - they should get their own stuff/job/dog/house/belongings and not try to rob mine.

11. Hangar Lane

12. Target Roundabout

13. Mould growing in the house no matter what I tried to do to prevent it.

14. Feeling the cold so bad that 'rugging up' did not help, unlike others I have no desire to rug up and splash in puddles and go on country walks when the sky is grey and its raining or if its too cold outside.

15. A trip to the sea was always a day trip - Brighton usually and seemed to take mammoth planning and time, leaving you needing a day off afterwards because we would always get the train. I live 4.5kms from the nearest beach now and I can cycle it.

I have to stop now, I am getting wound up thinking about Mill Hill Broadway. Oh just thought of another one - Oxford Street/Covent Garden and museums - I am over it.

Perth - SOR.

We have had lots of comments from POMS saying how boring WA is (not just Perth) and how come we dont miss London.

I guess it depends on what you like in life and where I am suits me.

I read this post quite a few times, for various reasons. No 1 I've got a lot of respect for PP and her views.

It's got me asking myself quite a few questions, especially as I spend a lot of time on my London board. Their attitudes really counteract these, and I'm asking myself why. ? I'm very interested in various views as I'm South London born and bred, for some strange reason I feel my heritage niggling away at me (probably because I left at such a young age 23/24). So I look closely at all relevant thoughts.

Could it be that the majority of people that post on my London Board who say they are happy and think they live in the best place in the world... South London Cough, even I larf at that one.. !!! are insular, deluded ? Kidding themselves, easily pleased ?

I suppose the answer is, how the individual reacts to any given situation. There is one relatively wealthy bloke on there that comes back from Miami every year to somewhere around Purley, cursing the day he married a American which forces him to live in a hell hole in Florida compared to Croydon LOL !!! The fellow is well educated as well.

Hmmm weird eh ?

More questions in my head than ever now dammit.

Cheers PP

PS re point 3... shopping I got plenty of that myself when I went back last time, and came very close to abusing the shop assistants. I reckon I would snap eventually, after my experience with how I personally think it should be done, from living here.

I was talking about the drivel on the commercial channels. Truth be told though, Foxtel's not much better.

I think you would be very lucky to switch the TV on and get a good programme from the BBC in the first hour of watching. Even if you were lucky, chances are you would have watched it on the BBC 3 years ago.

As for SBS, unless you have cable, for some people SBS reception is not that great.
