Re: UK household disposable income falls for first time in 30 years
My brother is currently having a new kitchen built in his house in Shropshire. My FIL is currently on holiday in Spain.....he was here a few weeks ago.
My son has recently been promoted and has been offered other jobs which he declined.
None of these people are pessimistic....they are doing well.

I can only go by what I know.

As an outsider, I find the British to be, generally, a pessimistic nation. You don't.
It is what it is.

BHP stated the other day that when they finish their ramp up on their iron ore exports here to max. capacity they have 200 years of proven resources before it runs out.

I have no axe to grind with the UK - it's an okay place, with a generally negative population, but you see it differently to me

Thatcher was one of the greatest right-wing leaders of the 20th century
she took a nation that was heading for basketcase status and completely turned it around
she smashed socialist losers, union wankers etc into bits and forever changed the politics of the UK. She also gave us Blair/Brown, so doh! on that one!
etc - and there's a lot of etc
A fine woman and the British people should be grateful that she was their leader

I've got no time for yuppies either. Thing is G, I know hard working, 'normal' people who are struggling

She seems to be highly regarded by two groups of people. Generally those who lived and worked in the South East during her time and those who were kids/unborn.
She is almost universally loathed by everybody from the UK outside of those two groups.

The views on Thatcher are fascinating.

I went to the UK in 1981 when I was 18. Even then I could see what a mess the country was in and needed sorting out.
In 1979, the UK needed an enema - and Thatcher gave it to them!

I genuinely believe there will be wild celebration in parts of the UK...which no doubt people in other parts of the world will be quite perplexed by!

"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope."
Hmmmmm.... don't remember much of any of that.

I was referring to the impact of global warming not that BHP might run out of iron ore.
