Which I did, and Nic thanks you too ...
A 'how long is a piece of string' question I'm sure, but do you have ANY idea how long it'll take before she'll start being able to lose weight?
Obv taking into account she eats healthily, and gets decent exercise etc
Oh and she's been off her anti D tabs for over 3 months now too ...
They wasn't aiding in weight loss either!

Dr B has told Kerry it can take 12 months plus depending up on how much damage has been done... Just eat healthy in the mean time, it will happen eventually.

[QUOTE=TiddlyPom;7311832]Excellent. Ask for a total thyroid panel.
No NO NO NO NO!
NO SHAKES.
Listen very carefully.
I will say this only once.

When you convert your T4 to T3, one of the things you need is CARBOHYDRATE.
Shakes do not have enough carbohydrate in them. They are bad for you. You can do more damage to your thyroid by messing around with your mebolism. Very low calorie diets can damage your thyroid.
You need some carbs. Not NO CARBS.
With no carbs you will send your body into starvation mode and you will not lose weight. ATkins induction... very bad for thyroid and won't work. Atkins Ongoing Weight Loss programme better
...
Well I have to admit you're right there - I tried the Atkins Diet Induction for 8 weeks and gained 3lbs
Over the same period of time my hubby lost 14 kilos.
I didn't get a chance to call the doctor today as I was flat out at work and didn't even get 5 minutes free to phone. My knuckles are aching and I'm so tired but I guess I've been getting no energy from the "evil shakes". Blame Today Tonight who said that ISOWHEY was a miracle weight loss product..... Okay I know - I'm a sucker!!!! (I'm also a sucker who has gained 1.5 kilos this week on them - and feel like crap).

Can anyone tell me if this is correct please? ...
Nic was last on 75mcg of thyroxine. The doctor who has put her on piggy has put her on 2 'grains' I think they're called, she's been taking it for 2 weeks now.
Over the last couple of days Nic's been feeling very tired again, and is wondering if the 2 grains isn't enough? ...
... she seems to think it was 1 grain for each 25mcg of thyroxine! ...
You'd think to go ask your doctor! ... but it certainly appears she gets better advice here!
Same doc incidently told her to cut out carbs if she wants to lose weight! ...
Cheers docs! ...

Well I'd guess Nic's thyroid has been shot to pieces so it could be a long wait!
Thanks for the info ...

That is just what Dr B told me this morning, she was so pleased with the change in me since November. But she did say that the weight will start to drop off in about 6-9 months as my body needs to repair from the damage it has had done to it so far with my badly control thyroid condition. She said I am very healthy and have great blood pressure and heart rate so just to carry on the way I am going.

As an aside, I was watching <whispers> Oprah <whispers> today and she was talking about her own thyroid issues. Dr Oz talked about the importance of not relying on test results to give you the answers to your problem, but that what your body tells you is the best indicator of whether you are managing your thyroid properly. Such wise words.....all I need now is to find a specialist who feels the same way.
thanks a huge bunch - I really appreciate it!!!!

Ah, Oprah.... bless her. She's still on T4 (Thyroxine) only and still can't work out why she's not getting better....
You need a symptoms doctor, not a numbers doctor. They do exist.
Good luck. It's worth paying for - there's nothing better than feeling good.

Nothing else at all.
Once I was optimally treated, I lost all my weight. Over the past 2years I've lost about 4 stone or something. It's a lot anyway.

Sure, cut out the chips and dips, the cake, the mashed potato... insert brown rice and healthy veggies... you need carbs, but not BAD carbs! It depends on what the measurements are on the pig stuff she's taking. Donna's at the same doc, yes? Perhaps she knows what the pharmacy levels are....
Either way, feeling tired for a couple of days might be an indication of other things... and not necessarily her rate of medication... However, given she wasn't on very high levels in the first place, it would be wise to ring the doc and ask whether she can introduce a grain in at about 3 pm to raise the levels a bit and see how that works.
It could be. About a year, 18 months?

I'm getting some lovely karma for this thread:
'Have some karma for your wonderful Thyroid threat'
and
'Thanking you from the heart of my bottom!'
You're all very silly.

Yeah well as I've said before, she's pretty good with what's good and bad for you so has no white bread, pasta, rice etc, and is very much a healthy eater.
I've showed her what you said about the extra grain. I think she's gonna ask her.
Oh and does anyone know if your 'normal' GP can prescribe this piggy one?
Nic's been given this by the doc Donna uses, but we're just wondering do we HAVE to go back for future scripts? ...

I think I found a Perth guy earlier on in this thread. Have a look back and give him a call.
Dr Salim Ismail was the one you recommended for Perth. I called him today. He is not taking on new patients for the foreseeable future. I left my name to be added to the waiting list...........
Came home from work exhausted today - fell out with OH for saying something stupid. Went to bed (4pm) and was all weepy and feeling sorry for myself. NOT like me but I told him I'm just too exhausted to cope.
He made my dinner and massaged my feet. Think he knows I'm almost at breaking point.
I just want the old me back - she felt younger!!!!!

I have another friend here in Perth with thyroid probs, and her specialist was demanding once a month blood test and once a month consultations. She couldn't afford him!!!! she had bad feelings that he was just out there to suck some money off her.......I'll check out his name so we can give him a wide berth!

Hello every one, how are you all? It has been very quite on here lately.
Just an update as i go for my thyroid scan tomorrow afternoon, bit nervous the old tummy is going a bit.
Saturday i have got my other scan to see what damage the mini stroke has done and why.
Shall update you when i know more.
Perhaps some Karma would be good, long time since receiving any.
I dont know what is it like when a girl has to ask for it?

I've topped you up xx
Hope all goes well for you.
I'm still tired but not as bad as I was 2 or 3 weeks ago. I was crying then I felt so bad.
I'm just checking to see if it's related to my monthly cycle......
Going to see my GP next week.
