What we did get tho, was the results of her tests so far. We only have results for TSH and one lot for all (she's had 3 lots done). He said something about Medicare won't pay for the T3 & T4 most of the time ...

Anyway,

30/01/08 - TSH 7.94

19/02/08 - TSH 9.02

12/03/08 - TSH 0.05, T4 28.4, and T3 9.4

She hasn't been tested since March so next result will prob tell us more ...

Get your teeth into that ...
Okey dokey!

TSH in March shows she was possibly Hyper (need FT3 and FT4 to confirm that), Ranges are usually around 0.30 - 3.00. Thats a MASSIVE change in just 3 weeks from the previous test! What happened during that time? What did the doc say to her after the March test? I'm absolutely stunned if shes been on 200mcg since then, with a TSH which is barely detectable.

You need FT3 and FT4 rather than just T3 & T4 - can you check your results sheet please - also quote the results next to them if you have them.

Medicare dont pay for FT3 and FT4?? Oh come on!! They just have to tick the little box on the bloods request sheet and its all sorted - they just ask for your medicare card when you get your bloods done. I never pay for bloods!

Great news that shes reduced her dosage. Very dangerous to be on too high a dose and its no wonder shes feeling so bad at the moment. Being hyper is absolutely vile and makes you feel 'crazy' literally - weird thoughts buzzing around your head 24/7 - not nice at all.

Paul I absolutely dread to think what Nics labs are going to be this time. She was very Hyper in March and this is now 5 months down the line on double the dose she should be. This is very very dangerous honestly.

Everyone of those tests indicates that she was Hyper.

TSH - well below range
FT4 - 121.25% of range (optimum normally being around 75%)
FT3 - 197%!!!! of range (optimum would be within 5-10% or FT4 %)

If shes been going through a bad patch lately, then I have absolutely no doubt whatsover, that this is the cause. She honestly has to take this seriously Paul. Just deciding to carry on a certain dose is madness and will only add to her suffering. The thyroid effects soo much that goes on within the body, in fact if effects everything.

Thank god shes dropped her dosage thats all I can say.

After the March test the GP said everything was going in the right direction, but to halve her dose. Now this is with him thinking she was on 100mcg (actually taking 200 cos of chemist cock up!), so she should've gone down to 50, but cos chemist gave her 200 insted of 100 it would've gone down to 100.

Anyway, she continued on a full tablet (200mcg) till a few days ago, and os now taking 100mcg (half a tab) a day.

Hope that made some sense! ...

When awake she's hyper I'm sure, but is also sleeping a real lot too! No weight drop and nothing else!

I spose in a few days we'll have the lab results ... I dread to think! ...

Hyper - dear god yes she will be. How she manages to hold a conversation at the moment I have no idea. Sleeping a lot....yes because just being awake is burning up soooo much energy...her body is in 5th gear even when shes just sitting...its exhausting.

The lower dosage will make a difference but this time she really needs to take note of what the doctor is telling her. The only problem now is that hes not going to know what dosage to put her on. Shes is going to have to confess to taking 200mcg otherwise you'll get nowhere. She then needs to go back to get her bloods done again 6 weeks later, and then 6 weeks after that to check that its stabilising. My guess is she'll be dropped down to 50mcg as initially told to take.

Heres hoping a swift recovery

Nic is with me and explained more.

Ok, 30/1/08 was first test, and 19/2/08 was the 2nd blood test (no medication at this stage), but GP noted that it had risen in only 3 weeks!

On meds around the 20th of feb and retested on the 12/03/08. Went to GP and this is when he said it's working, but we need to drop the dose.

Needless to say she didn't, but in her defence she thought she was taking only 100mcg, but for the chemist cock up it was 200mcg ... and continued till a few days ago as I say.

I dunno about her holding a conversation, no one gets a look in! ...

Yeah we'll be honest about the dose when we see him next ...

Anyway, I've recently been doing my daughters hair all night, haven't stopped and need a bath and sleep.

Will catch up tomorrow.

Thanks for your help and knowledge ...

OK

So she was only on meds for 3 weeks, and it did that to her labs! Imagine what its done in 5 months??

You've done the right thing Nic by reducing your dosage, just wish you'd done it sooner and you wouldn't have had to go through this shit. Its hard to believe how much the thyroid can effect your life I know but seriously, seriously, it can have dire consequences, especially to your mental health. The good news though is that with a simple dosage change it can be corrected slowly

Good luck with your new labs - let us know how you get on. Oh and get the bloody FT3 and FT4 done too. If you think of it this way...the TSH cant really go much lower so it wont give you an indication of just how hyper you are. You really do need to get the FT3 and FT4 to gauge whats going on...and get them every time not just every now and again.

You gotta push for these tests sadly...

Do a quick search on 'Hyperthyroid' and it should explain a lot of your symptoms of late I'm sure

Good luck
