Recently, I have had to lodge two "meaningful" PLEs related to my case and believe me I got a reply on 4th working day, which is a very well acceptable standard. The recent one being is just a 5 days ago.

It might be on a case-to-case basis. Probably, you might be asking too much complex queries like rocket scientists ask. So it can't be classified as a generic scenario. In addition, there is no official communications from DIAC too, about the effect of PLEs on slowing down visa processing, except economic condition or fiscal year end or reduction in visa numbers.

You see this is one instance where it's worth the money to pay a decent agent...who then, like mine is doing right now, is acting as general migration guru & therapist as I struggle with the stress of the close of year, thus relieving DIAC of the several thousand PLE's I would have sent them by now, if not for George Lombard (may God bless him & all who sail in him) who patiently listens to my pre-senile ramblings on a daily basis

Oooooooo I'm jealous, why's he not playing with me? lol Poor sod has to put up with me whinging and panicking on occasion....once the 30th June (end of the academic year here in NI) is here though, chilled out Jen shall return and he'll think he's emailing a totally different person! WOO HOO lol
