i havent really come across nursing auxillaries in a hospital setting, the setup is different here in that the wards are staffed by qualified rns and ens. Having said that they are around as we usually have them if we need to special a patient ie if patient is confused r climbing out of bed but thats the only capacity ive seen them in, and if they are employed im not sure they would be allowed to do alot like they are in the uk, as ens here in SA are not allowed to do certain things. Thats hosp i work at and im pretty sure its the case accross SA but feel free to correct me if im wrong x

Hi,

Here in Qld nursing auxillaries are called AIN's (Assistants in Nursing). Pretty much the same as the UK. Seen them in both private and public hospitals.

Cheers

Hi when I worked at Kids hospital in Brisbane they had AIN's there but they only seemed to be there to change beds and restack stock...no hands on patient care....may just have been that hospital though.

Hi all,

My husband and I are both nurses and will be in Brisbane before the end of the year. We will both be working in a private hospital, emergency and acute settings. How do those of you find the private hospitals compared to the NHS, ie acuity of pts, working environment, training and development, responsibility etc. We are both looking forward to embracing Australian life and new challenges.

Any info would be great.

Hi,

Hubby works in a private hospital in Brisbane and says what a cushy number he has compared to the NHS. There's always someone who will clean up, lift etc.

Cheers

Hi All!

Wow, I have been watching this thread for some time now and there's been a lot off support, honesty and general niceness which is lovely, especially when your coming over on your own!

I'm moving to Perth this Saturday fron NE England, I'm a RGN originally hospital based but have been practicing as a Community Staff Nurse for the past year and a half.

I'm moving back in to the hospital setting (a lovely hospital in Subiaco)and quite looking forward to it, I will be based on an elderly medical ward initially and dont start work until the 22nd so lots of time to settle in. However, i would really appreciate any tips or advice anyone has who has moved over or is working near by.

Many thanks!

Kelly.

Hi there great thread....lots of us out there but interestingly enough for me,I am astounded by the volumes of ppl leaving UK for OZ....what gives ?
My excuse is I've been living in SA for 15 years and us whities are no longer welcome so am off to visit the wizard of OZ to take my skills elsewhere.

Just been notified of registration with QNC so good to go now with job hunting on the Sunshine Coast as a midwife....anyone near Buderim,Nambour or Maroochydore ?

Hi Kookypie

Thanks for the well wishes - can't believe we only have 5 days left in England. Feel very apprehensive and sad at leaving everyone.

I will be working at the NICU at the children's hospital - would love to meet up perhaps when you get over?
