We've been married 7 years, lived together 10 years, provided joint bank account statements, utilities bills, copies of photos etc going back as far as possible. Also included a load of social stuff like wedding invitations, postcards, Xmas cards etc addressed to both of us over the years. Friendly local solicitor certified all our documents for free (!) - his comment was 'These Australians are a fussy lot!'. Got two old friends in Aus to do the 888's - they have met my OH in Aus on hols, and also when they came over here on hols.

The biggest pain was getting proof of my residence in Aus (I am citizen by grant, born in NZ and moved to Aus when I was 5). Luckily my Dad had old primary school reports, high school reports etc etc to add to my Uni degree and transcript all of which proved I'd been living there a long time, although I moved to the UK in 1996.

A few years ago I got a work permit here in the UK through a local migration agent - he also gave me some free advice a few years later when applying for British PR on basis of marriage, which boiled down to 'Give the case officer loads and loads and loads of evidence, and they'll say yes immediately. Give them the bare minimum and they may smell a rat...'

Anyway, amazed at how quick it all was! Thanks to all on BE for the help and advice.
Congratulations. you must be soo excited. You got it very quick. Hope ours is processed as fast.

Just received my 4 childrens citizenship by descent forms - only posted them a week ago! Just finalizing my hubbies spouse visa application, noticed that he has an entry date to be there for. Might be a stupid question but once hes entered Australia, can he come and go as he likes or does he have to stay there for a while? If he hasn't got a job in Oz before we go, he was going to fly back to the UK to work offshore for a few more trips but if there are restrictions on him leaving and entering we might have to rethink. Any help would be most appreciated.

Once he has validated his visa (must be before the 'expiry' date) he can come and go as he pleases, as far as I know. There are a lot of people who have applied too early and are forced to fly to Aus just to validate the visa, then come home again... that's why I've had to wait so long!

Best of luck!

Default Australian PCC processing time??

Guys I'm in a panic and need some advice if anyone has any.

I need to know if anyone has sent off for an Australian Police Check recently and how long it took to get back? Seems to be really variable accounts on past threads.

I've been offered a job in canada for the summer which I need to start asap (heading to Oz on a Prospective Marriage Visa in October) so I need to get out of here and this is the last thing that will be holding me up.

I can't honestly tell you as I've been wondering the same thing, but from what I've researched it certainly seems to come through much faster if you apply from outside Australia. I'm not sure this is correct so some more advice here would be great for both of us, but it's what I've kinda worked out after searching through this website for the last seven months. Best advice... post ASAP!

Oh I hope someone has sent off for one recently and can let us know!

I just wish I'd done this sooner - I'm going to kick myself if I'm sitting around waiting for a month or so. I quit my job in 2 weeks and my OH is sitting around at home with no job waiting for us to go!!!!

To be honest I'm expecting it to take at least a month! Have you had your UK checks done yet? How long did they take? I asked a friend of mine but she applied about this time last year and they took five weeks!

Wishing you the best of luck anyway, I'm not in too much of a rush and I'm stressed enough!

Oh god - a month?! aaargh! I just found some threads actually from last sept and people on there were waiting up to 2 or 3 months for them to come back! Do you think it's worth putting a begging note in with is asking them to hurry up?! (nicely, of course!)

Yes annoyingly I thought my UK PCC would be the last thing I was waiting for, but got that through yesterday quicker than expected. I think it 4 weeks at the most from putting it in the post to getting it back through my letter box.

If only I had sent the Oz one off before now!!!!! aargg!

That's ok, thanks for feeling my pain!

I'm frantically searching through old posts and threads and can't find anything that recent, but some say 2 weeks and others are saying way longer, so I don't know what to think!

There's not a lot I can do either way though - I just have to sit back and endure another agonising wait. I am sick of all this!!!!

Yeh if I live that long! I feel stress might kill me before then!

Yep sending it off tomorrow. Had to wait for the bank to get me a bankers draft in AUD.

Now my OH is thinking of going off to Canada without me so he can start work while I wait around for it to arrive.

you wil be fine, its just a case of waiting x

it shouldnt be too long fingers crossed just make sure all I are dotted and T's are crossed so when it comes thats all you have to send off, when you get your aussie police check send your passport off same time.

he cant go without you, thats just silly ?? I mean 6 weeks @ the most, cant he get any job ? cant he cal up UK immi and ask for extension on his worik limit ? Im sure there are other ways instead of him going without you ?

According to form 1101 on the immi site, Australian PCC's usually take 30 days but can take longer during busy periods. It also says not to contact the AFP directly.

Send the request to your relevant state too, as per:

http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/FAQsPoliceCh.html

And from the AFP site:

"The current processing time for a routine National Police Check is approximately 15 working days from the date received by Criminal Records. Please be aware that processing times for National Police Checks may vary as the AFP is reliant on other police jurisdictions for some information.
We also recommend that you allow sufficient time for processing and return by postal services before making enquiries regarding your application. "
