Hi guys

my partner will be applying for a spouse visa within the next month and i have been reading many posts on this site and its a great read.

Ive noticed that there are many questions as to how long it will take to get a visa, and they all seem to be being answered by people who had relationships stretching back a number of years together and most have children and both names on the mortgage and the like. What about how long it takes for those people who do not have this history? Me for example, have met the woman i want to be with forever and in January, will have been together a year. We have a joint savings account, been on numerous holidays together, live together in rented accomodation, have both names on utility bills etc. How long can it take someone like us, to receive a successful application based on similar experiences from others.

Thanks for listening

Hi Chris,

I don't think it makes much difference if you can prove that basic year requirement and some joint stuff. I must confess that we are married, but we don't have kids, only one joint account, no morgage (yet!!). Submitted 15th Oct, granted 6th Dec. Our friends (who were applying for prospective fiance visa) were even quicker and they have been together about 2 years. Mine was slightly delayed because the Aussie AND UK police checks got "lost in the post"!!

We were both applying in Singapore though, so it may be a bit different from the UK. Most people on BE reassured me that spouse/defacto visas are amongst the quickest to be granted - and they were right.

Thanks Chillibird.

Question: Did you get 2 PCC done for yourself? Im abit confused now. As a sponsor, do i have to have one, or does my partner need to get an Aussie one aswell as UK.

Thanks

Hello :)

Only the non-aussie needs the police check.

She needs to get one for every country she has lived in for more than a year in the last 10 years

Not sure about the answer to your previous question, it only took 2 weeks to get my visa back, I have been with OH for 5 years, married for nearly 3 of those and we have no children together.

Just a little update... application went in Friday 7th December. Got an email yesterday with a case officer and requesting I fill in forms 80 (character assessment) and 1281 (Australian Values Statement). So I've filled those in and will drop them off at Australia House this morning, since it's just along the road from where I work.

So I've got a case officer! Hopefully next step is the visa!

It's only the applicant - follow the links given in the above post for details. I have lived in UK, Australia and Singapore all within the last 10 years so needed a separate police check from each place.

The sponsors job is really easy - just one form (much shorter than ours!!) and then help with info gathering...

Do you know why they asked you to fill out form 80. Can i ask how long you and your partner have been together?

Out of interest, can form 80 be completed without being asked for it.... to save time should they do? Why would they ask for another fomr to be completed?

Thanks

Yeah I guess it can be completed without being asked for it - no reason why not (I think I remember someone on here did that just in case). It says to only complete it if asked, but can't imagine it'd be a prob if you did. I have no idea why they wanted me to fill it in though!

We've been together for just over 5 years. So I just dropped the forms off at Australia House and actually saw my case officer who said if I'd had my passport on me he could have issues the visa there and then! So I'll go back tomorrow with the passport and hopefully get my visa!

I know, it's a bit of a nightmare isn't it. Took me ages to work out ALL of the times I've been out of the country over the last 10 years! That was quite a list.

Fingers crossed for the visa then!
