Hello,

I have just been pointed in this direction very kindly by Shiels.

I'm Sophie and I'm the English one. Boyfriend was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia when he was 10 but is an Australian citizen. He has been over here for nearly 6 years and we have been together for 3.5 of those. His Mum was born in the UK so he has Right of Abode which is pretty good as it means he can come and go as he pleases!
We are applying for a defacto spouse visa in April but have planning this for about a year now. I always knew that boyf wanted to return home at some point and I guess it's only fair that I give it ago - though to be honest am not looking forward to leaving family/friends but I guess everyone is in the same boat here! So we are hoping to head to Brisbane in September to spend some time with his family and then look to move down South to Sydney.

Anyway won't bore you anymore - Good luck to everyone on here and congrats to everyone who is already in Australia.

Welcome to the circle.......
You will find it useful to ask stuff in here too as lots of us have already been through the visa appl or are going through it at the moment. When Rachel comes in she will ad you to our list!!!
If you want find out about others in here have a read from the beginning as we have all added our own stories!!!! Claire x

Thanks this is great. Have noticed with this website that the majority are people applying for skilled visa's so it's great to find this!!

I am here!!!

I got a book I ordered in the post today which is the Where to Live guide to Greater Brisbane. So I have been sat with the baby and a cup of tea perusing all the different suburbs! So if anyone wants any advice let me know and I will be able to let you know (broadly!) what it says.

My sister in law lives in Windsor and thinks that we should aim to be near her but I guess it would be cheaper to go further out of the CBD, but then of course you have the commuting time if you travel into the city. And I am actually starting to get a bit worried about this whole rental problem that people keep talking about as we would plan to rent for the first 6 months.

Why is the rental market so oversubscribed? It must be a fabulous place if you can afford more than one property as you are pretty much guaranteed to be able to rent it by the sounds of things......

Now that I have found this thread I am going to use it!:

I stupidly booked flights to France with out thinking for May (will be appling in April!) and I know that I don't have to send of my passport with my application but was wondering how quick the turn around is if your granted the visa from sending in the passport, getting it stamped and then sent back.
And can you wait awhile before sending in the passport or do you have to do it straight away - or even better can you take it to Australia House personally and wait for it to be stamped?

Sorry loads of questions!

The turnaround for the visa is quoted as 7 - 12 weeks from date of application (if there are no problems and youve got your medicals and police check done already)

You don't send your passport at the time of applying, just a certified copy, you will have to send your passport when your visa is appproved, and is supposed to be a 3 day turnaround, according to my case worker.

Dont be daft Phoenix! I bet your bloke has built up a social circle all ready for when you arrive!

And if not there are all the other websites you can go on www.pomsinperth.com and as you're a mum - www.mumsnet.com which is uk based but has a living overseas talk section where I know for a fact there are some ladies in Perth as I regularly chat online to them on there!

Plus one of my hubby's sisters lives there, so we will be coming to visit anyway!

HELLO......http://bestsmileys.com/flowers/13.gif

In the case of Spouse visa applications you can send your passport in with your application. I chose not to, but I know others who did with no problem, in fact one of them had the passport with the visa in it back within a week!!!

Hi Can I just jump on the male side before the boat tips ?
Im (a young) 44 yrs She's (well preserved) 38 yrs.
We have 2 pommie boys 1 & 3.5.
My wife is the Aussie by birth. She grew up in Perth and spent a few years over here while her parents ping ponged.
I was born in UK but moved to Canada and grew up there from 5 years old
We met in Canada while she was over there working. She was on her way back to Perth by the time I pulled her. We spent a year apart and I visited Perth then we decided to move to UK 6 years ago as we both are UK citizens. We went back to Perth to get married in 2002 and had a great time. I was quite impressed with the beauty of the place. We honeymooned at Ningaloo reef. It was amazing. We have had a great time here in UK (especially me) but my wife is pining for the perth fiords (ok Matilda bay) and her family in Perth.
I have my visa, we were quite shocked it only took a few weeks after we spent months organizing the medicals and pc and all that. I have to validate before May 31. My wife has seized the opp to pack everything and move us there by then but I need to find a job first so everything is still up in the air on that front.
Good Luck to all

Hi all! I would like to join your gang! I would of 'joined' earlier, but we've had problems with our laptop.

Right, heres the story (Kristy already knows it!) My parents moved to Melbourne when I was 6 from the UK, I was meant to 'travel the world' when I finished year 12... thought the place where my parents grew up would be a nice place to start... met a bloke ... bought a house... had his baby... got married (back in oz)... basically I did everything the wrong way round, & didn't get to travel the world, but hey!

I have finally made my husband realise that we & our son will have a much better quality of life, if we return to Oz. We've been together almost 9 years, & married for 3, so I think it's about time he gave it a chance!

We FINALLY sent off all the forms etc back in December, & FINALLY heard back about 10 days ago - SPOUSES VISA CONFIRMED !!! A little 'problem' is that his date to be there is 31 May 2007, which is a bit of a sh!tter, as we have a house to sell etc. We are putting it on the market next week, so fingers crossed. It may be a matter of him 'popping' out there to validate the visa & return once the house & everything is sorted.

To be honest, I am really nervous about returning. We have a great circle of friends here & everything just runs along smoothly, I know most things will be the same - work, bills etc, but it's the fact that we don't have anyone apart from my mum, dad, sis, & BIL. Does anyone else feel this way? I have been here for almost 10 years (OMG !!!), so I suppose it's just all I've known as an 'adult'.

OH has plans on becoming a postman (??!!) not sure where this idea came from, but when he said 'When do you ever see a grumpy postman? & they have their afternoons free', that kind of answered it! (probably because by the time they get to our house at 8am, their shift is nearly over!) I work in travel, so I know I'll get something, but not sure if I want to continue doing that or not.

Right, I have bored you all enough! Take care, & good luck everyone.
