You're right of course, but no way of telling which was the cause if a fat smoker croaks
I'm just saying we should be looking at all problem health areas and smoking is only one and unlikely to be the worst.
I think people hate it as having a cigarette in your face is more anti social than a cream cake!

I used to smoke socially - gave up 11 years ago, just before I got pregnant with my first. When I stopped breast feeding her I cut loose and go really drunk and smoked about two packets of cigs in one night - then promptly got pregnant with number two, so decided I may as well just give it up for good. This summer though I did have a couple of nights smoking and drinking (all the women here in Dubai go home for summer and all the men party) being one of the only women in the compound, I had a few nights of drinking with my husband and the boys and had a couple of cigs. I think the hangover is far worse after smoking and the stink is horrendous.

It really surprises me that people think other deaths such as heart disease, strokes etc are not linked by smoking, a huge amount of these ppl who have died from many other cancers not lung cancer, have so because they smoked, granted some did not smoke, but a high percentage have smoked. Also If you think smoking spliffs is ok & it isnt harming you, think again, Cannabis burns at a far higher temp than tobacco therefor you are getting well more tar (many toxic chemicals in tar) into the lungs, we are seeing teenagers who smoke cannabis into our sessions with the start of emphasemia and COPD, No joke, its really sad.
Im not against smokers, just smoking!!!!!

But giving up has given us some more years hopefully. I wish they were as tough on smokers years back. When you see friends & relatives around you dying it gives you one big wake up. My husbands father died at 52 from smoking had Lung cancer. also my uncle died he had stomach cancer he had given up about 5 years befo finding out. he had a horrible painful death.

No I hate it, as my parents both smoked way too much.
They now both have bad health, dad ill since he turned 50. They would love to visit me in Australia but too ill.
Living with chain smoking parents who were always skint and gave me bad asthma was enough of a deterrent.

Although obesity is a massive killer, smoking related deaths far outweigh those related to obesity, you only have to look at what is actually in tobacco, what parts of the body is affects (the whole body) and how the poisons in tobacco can kill some ppl slowly & some quickly, depending on numerous other factors, Im sorry but when you see the health inequalities due to smoking like I do on a daily basis you will then know where I am coming from. All health inequaliies need addressing no matter wether its smoking, obesity or diabetes

I think we can nip this in the bud and agree both are huge issues. My point is that smoking is almost universally accepted as bad for you. Obesity is too but much less is done about it. That is all I am saying

as an obese person you still get a pretty negative response from a massive section of people. People can be pretty judgmental towards people who aren't in the normal weight range.
