Exactly! We used to time one of my bosses in the UK - one day he actually spent FIVE HOURS having fag breaks!

Nope, an 8 hour working day! We timed him from the moment he picked up his fags until the moment he got back to his desk :scared: Admittedly that was the worst day by far, but still.........

He was also the guy who sparked off the complete ban on smoking in our building, before it came in for the rest of the Force. He used to smoke a disgusting old pipe, which he would periodically poke at with a straightened paperclip (too tight to buy pipecleaners). One day he poked too hard in the bowl of the pipe and the paperclip went through it, followed by the still smouldering tobacco, which promptly set fire to the paperwork on his desk
Wonder who's police check it was that went up in flames that day........ :D

I agree with this, why should you get more breaks if you smoke. You should nip out for fresh air every time they come back, see how long it is before anyone says something.

When I was at work I cut down from 20 per day to 10. I had maybe 3 cigs when working a 12 hour shift.

The guys in my office smoke.

They smoke in the boardrooms and their own offices and the open plan part so it all drifts into the secretary part in a thick haze.

I had to laugh, last week we were told we couldnt eat hot food anywhere in the office as the smell of food upset one of the managers, who smokes so heavily, you go home stinking.

I read, oh , must have been a couple of years ago now, but it always stuck in my mind, coz its bloody true, in a nursing magazine that smokers get up to one week more breaks in a year than non-smokers

I think smoking bans are great , nothing worse than the stink you get from a night out in the pub, never mind careless smokers burning holes in others clothes !
Most smokers in restaurants won't smoke during their meal , but don't mind smoking during everyone else's .

Is just the same if not worse in Aus, so from 1 nanny state to another......least my lungs are nicely healing up as very rarely come into contact with the cancer inducing foul stench anymore ;)

At my sisters work, they get two "smoko's"/ tea breaks a day of ten minutes each. It seems harsh but it certainly stops people taking the piss.

They supposedly banned smoking at tram stops in Melbourne but I see people smoking all the time. Mind you, if they can't even be arsed to monitor who has a ticket, don't think they give a rat who is jacking up a fag

You will be pleased to hear that from next summer it will be banned. See link below which you could print off and leave it on their desks!

My mother died of lung cancer recently from smoking. If you smoke do whatever you can to quit, its a terrible way to die and the 15 years smoking takes off your life could be the best years of your life.
