You'll find that smoking in Australia is banned in most public places as well.

yEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAA go Scotland :D :D :D :D
I love the ban, its amazing going into smoke free places, especially pubs :D

but I do feel sorry for the smokers e.g my mother is currently in hosp and she has always been a heavy smoker (now 78 years of age), and is demented coz she can't have a fag :(

Can she not buy some patches? That'd give her a mini-hit.

Its making me cut doon. (good thing) But in an engineering factory with welders, grinders and manky steel. It doesn't make sense. Pubs etc, good idea coz I dont drink. I laugh when I pass a pub and lots of people are standing outside. Looks quite sad.

Yeah there's a law where you can't smoke within X feet of ANY public doorway or whatever!

They ARE pretty hot on it tho, and I remember asking in a restaurant where the smoking section was and the lady pointed to the street! ...lol

Yeah that sounds about right.

Oz IS very anti smoking tho, and I spose at the end of the day it IS a good thing as it DOESN'T put hairs on your chest as I was led to believe as a young impressionable teen ...

Laws can vary from state to state. Here in Melbourne, workplaces are definite no smoking zones but most employers have no problems with their employees going for a smoko. Public places are also banned including railway stations, even outside. But you can smoke in some pubs, but I don't know how long that will be for.

When I was in Alice Springs they were a bit more relaxed about smoking. For example, the school I went to teach at had a bar and smoke room :D

I was at the Snoop Dogg concert at Burwood (Perth) the other week and a fight broke out between non-smokers and an ignorant **** who decided to light up, whilst sitting on wooden tiered seating..... excellent idea, eh?
Great fight, better than the concert!

Neil.

The guys that smoke at work have to go outside and a certain distance from any doorways - this means that nipping out for a fag usually lasts a good 15 minutes! Starts to wind you uo after a while when you realise just how much time off smokers get, as noone stops them going outside 10 times a day

This used to wind me up no end. The bosses used to moan about cracking on with work while they would have endless tab breaks.
