I'll take the Karl Pilkington approach to this topic.... It would be good for a certain group of people... Those that are scared of Tunnels, Boats and Planes. For the first time in their lives they will be able to go abroad without having to face the demon of Plane and Boat or Tunnel travel.

So that swings it in favour of independance I reckon.

I must have OD'd on Gervais podcasts....

Never really understood the Scots lack of self belief, they are so easily scared into the belief that they cannot stand alone. How does that argument stand up when you have countries like Norway and Denmark, especially Denmark, it has a little bit of gas and oil but still a net importer and yet is considered to have one of the highest living standards in the world with a population of 5 million. There is absolutely no reason why Scotland cannot become a successfull independent country over time, is 10, 20 30 years of hard work not worth being an Independent nation??

You must be the most spineless people in the world. Ewan McGreggor was right in Trainspotting!!!

Yeah, I mean look at Greece, a small country with an ample tourist trade income and 10m population - must be lack of self belief there.....

The only problem in Greece is a taxation system that allows just about everyone to avoid paying anything.

Don't know how you came to that conclusion. The only people on this thread who seem to be prophesying doom and gloom for an independent Scotland are English. The Scots who have posted are all for it.

What the hell has that got to do with anything, do you think the Greeks would like to go back to being under the Ottoman Empire ie The Turks because there economy is in meltdown, no they are proud people, they might be getting shafted for a couple of decades because of what has happened but in the bigger picture they will survive. People say "Look at Ireland" are you seriously suggesting the Irish for one nano second wish to be part of the UK again???

So why do the Polls coming out of Scotland show otherwise???? and why has it taken so long???? not the first time there has been a vote. GB is not a military dictatorship repressing you and forcing you to stay. It could have happened a long long time ago but the Scots seem to have lost any self believe and are easily cowed by tales of doom and gloom.

Well most of them live in the UK anyway, so you never know.

So basically we can't win?

If we don't go, we are spineless and lacking in self belief etc. On the other hand we are not allowed the desire of freedom, turning our backs on the UK etc.

I'm only assuming you don't know many Scottish people, and are making sweeping generalisations.

Because people have habitually pointed to "AN Other" european country to show how scotland could compete and win - changing that country as the previous picks have failed and fallen.

Scotland would have big problems in forging a position that would work; short, medium and long term. There are lots of threats and the plus points for the region look shaky. It would be sensible for scotland to consider very carefully first exactly what the plan was, what were the risks, and what were the benefits. Being bounced into it by Salmond and Cameron and people claiming "look, they could do well", off the back of jingoism, won't help them.

Fark me is 500 years not long enough to come up with a plan??? to think about it??? most countries have to fight for there independence and end up with a bombed out ruin of a country, but still they feel it's worth it to finally be free and independent. Scotland only has to hold a referendum and your free.

Like i said, spineless.

Well its closer to 300 years, but you're making the assumption that all Scots actually want to break from the Union. The evidence at the moment seems to suggest that they don't.... and that has **** all to do with being spineless. Perhaps they just see themselves as British?
