My shed got inundated inside today...and I was disgusted at my initial reaction. Had to remind myself that real problems were occuring elsewhere.

We've had about 125mm since Tuesday and the ground is already waterlogged.

Horsham, Dimboola (yes it really exists) Avoca are having major problems.

Melbourne may get 100mm tomorrow with damaging winds.

Unusual.

You are not alone. i went to sydeneey today and quite a few of the guys in the office were saying they cant watch the news any more the horror stories that ring so true and so close to home are just too much.
I reached that point yesterday too, I cant watch the news any more now, the families that have lost children, parents, etc the stories are too many and too heartbreaking to listen to any more.
I do feel a sense of gut wrenching loss at the destruction of brisbane cbd and southbank, they are such beautiful areas and they'll take so long to rebuild. Btw - I am not contrasting that with the grieving for people we dont know - just that the whole thing is really quite affecting. We are not hit by it at all we are 20km out of CBD but it really I think has hit everybody extremely hard just how horrific this has been.

I dont talk to wimmin on account of their moods, so I cannot comment about wimmins views, only us hardy blokes who are all feeling rather emotional about it. Unless its just post traumatic stress from the ashes.

The ground is saturated and to be honest so am I. Of the 24/7 coverage that is. Breaking news is one thing, rehash after rehash is another. I don't watch much on 7/9/10 channels but I do like the odd bit of CSI and to take them off because the news people want us to see more people walking into waterlogged houses and talk to devastated people in evac centres, intruding on people sleeping.

Enough already. I want news, I don't want disaster porn.

If that comes across as selfish and uncaring, it's not meant to be. I'm devastated for them but agggghhhhhhhh.

So what if they do own their own shop? Does that mean they can't also be volunteers who offered to go to the shops and buy bread so other volunteers could make sandwiches? How do you know they weren't the "bread" people and someone else wasn't the "fillings"?

It's perfectly normal Jen. You have been through a very traumatic event and it's normal for you to be teary; I would worry if you weren't upset by the devestation you've witnessed.

Not over familiar with the river system once you get over the border - I still struggle with some of it this side! I do know there are a lot of flood warnings in the north of NSW cos the weather system we had made its way south, so it depends if the rivers now in flood go through those towns......

http://australiantimes.co.uk/news/Do...-flood-support

It has a link to an account at the Commonwealth bank in London

Hu'h?

General chat thread.. posting a link to the fact that hundreds died in floods Brazil, something that I've personally seen absolutely zero about on Australian TV, and wasn't even aware it was happening, I think counts as 'general chat'.

It's not a reflection on what you have been posting.

Does anyone have any idea what state the Warrego Highway is in, and how long it might take before it reopens? I live in Brisbane but work out at Gatton, and know a lot of people out that way. I'm desperate to get out there to help out, but it sounds as if it might take a while until the road is fixed -?

Completely agree with you, Anna has been naturally upset and real. You can't fake that level of emotion (unless you are Nicole Kidman or Gwyneth Paltrow of course).

Do you know though, I dont think it will ever go away entirely. Marysville was/ is one of my fave spots in Vic (I'm a mountains person) and even now when I go there, (Its still pretty devastated) As we turn off of the highway I can feel myself beging to tense up, knowing that what I am going to see is going to be hard. One day I hope to go there and be plesently surprised, but I think its a way off yet

Hopefully the landscape wont be as ravaged there? (sorry but I dont know the answer to that) Here, even though all of the rubbish is gone, its just desimated and I think thats what makes it hard.

My heart goes out to all of you that are/know someone affected ....

I saw it on the news last night and it looked terrible...they reckon 250, dead, or did I hear that wrong

But agree with Pen, disaster porn! its a bit sick making after a while, i wish they would stick to the facts. Seeing police putting a body in a bag is not necessary, Its not bloody CSI, thats somebodys reative FFS
