The English speaking population of Holland probably isn't that far behind Englands these days.....Seeing as about 92 pct of the Dutch can speak English. I'm fairly sure that Norway has a higher percentage of English speakers than England...Isn't that Ironic !!

When it comes to the olympics I'm supporting Australia and South Africa - that's it

But you party on with whatever your agenda is on here - my post was not directed at you anyway. If it was I would have quoted you

Thanks for clearing that up. I will take it on board. ;)

Not sure of the final score, but this is how it looked 3 days ago.

I get the feeling that it's "British Empire" rather than "Commonwealth" because the later wouldn't take No.1 spot. Anyone want to tot up the numbers and see if it can beat the US?

either that or it was a pithy retort to the remoaners insistence that it was the EU wot won it:rofl:

I agree with Jad - you boys are a bunch of bitchy little things. I loved watching the Olympics, regardless of who wins. It's nice to see someone from your own country win, but it's great to see the person who has trained hard and is the best at their chosen sport win the medal they deserve, regardless of where they're from. Unlike Moneypenny, I was totally captivated by the 50km walk, I stayed up til about 1am Saturday morning watching it.;) I also love the gymnastics but didn't see a lot of it this time. Being a good old dance mum, I love the rhythmic gymnastics because the technique and grace is so similar to ballet and contemporary dance. The kids and I can't wait for the para olympics next month, the ad for it is pretty cool which helps.

Oh it was definitely that, but what with India doing so badly my rough totalling up is the Commonwealth only manages 180 medals in total, hence why she went for 'Empire' instead.

Scotland 18 medals - 4 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze; on the basis of share of GB population the rest of the union didn't perform as well so wishing to disassociate with the rest of the Union perhaps? (1/13 population, 18/67 of medals)

But as we've covered, a major part of the reason the UK did as well as it did was because of the use of lottery funding to support athletes. So obviously those scottish athletes were disproportionately supported by English funds, and without that support they wouldn't have done as well.

And looking at the list, quite a few of those 'scottish' medals were in teams - so they obviously needed their non-scottish team mates. eg of the 4 gold, 3 are in teams or pairs.

:confused:Lighten up and don't take everything so seriously, twas tongue in cheek. Yes, in teams of 2 or 4 not 13's. Andy Murray isn't lottery funded.
