Wow. My Olympic thread on whatsapp with a bunch of poms and aussies has got sour grapes all over it this morning. Something about Boxing and cheating judges.
Oh dear. British fans slump to a new low. More sour grapes here in the Telegraph. Joe Joyce misses out on Team GB's 28th gold as Tony Yoka is awarded controversial win in the Super  Heavyweight boxing final I personally like to see our colonial children do well, unfortunately it wasn't to be this time. Jolly good luck in Tokyo :britflag: |
Re: Olympics 2016
Overall, for me, it was an okay olympics - certainly nowhere as good as London and Sydney
Australia did well. We are the 12th largest economy and finished 10th in the medals table. Out of the top 10 nations, we are the smallest (granted, we are the wealthiest) so about where we should be. To put it in perspective, Canada, the country that that closest resembles us internationally finished 20th with 4G. Our only economic peers in Europe: Norway, Denmark and Switzerland finished 74th, 28th and 24th So a good olympics for Australia and the UK (don't know why they call their team GB as it does not represent the whole of the UK and is somewhat archaic). China have got to be disappointed considering the money and effort they've put in |

Back home to our back yard in Asia for the next games. Lets see if the country can regroup and do well in it's more familiar environment.
Not sure of the final score, but this is how it looked 3 days ago. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/d...eDwujU_5aI.png |

Depends how you count. If you go by language then English blows all others away. US, GB, Aussies, NZ, Canada etc.
I was looking at the NZ results very closely, if there had been a few more medals either side of the Tasman.... I would have been coming in with "Great Australasian" results lol :) |
