Aussies didn't have anyone capable of taking on Cav 1-1. Goss would be an also ran, the only Aussie capable of that is the one they keep leaving out of the team (and worlds) in Renshaw. Gorilla can and has taken him on and won, he was the danger. Sagan was never going to be a threat as he had nobody to deliver him. Germans played a smart game until Martin dropped out, then they needed to step up.
After the 9th climb it came back together but the GB matches were burnt. I predicted on other road racing forum that the break would come after BH. I race on that loop, a lot, and it's the time to make the break. I think GB knew that was a risk but couldn't pull it back. Tempo drilling on the front works well when you have 8-9 riders, not 4 and a sprinter keeping his powder dry.
My pick before the race was Sparticus, that course had 'Classics' written all over it. It's a shame he crashed.
Good race though, fantastic win by Vino, not popular though for obvious reasons.

Not sure I agree that on the day Goss couldn't have beaten Cav. If Oz and the Germans had worked together with GB all 3 teams would have been in the mix on the Mall and all 3 would probably ended up with a medal.,

Goss is capable of beating Cav, sometimes, but not on recent form, his time will come. Gorilla would have beaten Goss in a run in like that, Goss likes it a bit twistier.
Oz raced way to negatively all day, Evans was the Invisible Man and shouldn't been there at all given his illness in the Tour and lack of top form and has now pulled out of ITT. Shame for Durbridge as he could have totally stepped up for the ITT on recent form.
In the end they all just looked around and let GB do the work. hard to control a one day race with 4 people and pinging attacks. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, none of it really matters now.
I really was hoping Sparticus could have taken it out if not Cav.

Goss has not beaten Cav in a straigh head to head final sprint in recent races (ie, no sprinters boxed in). He failed to win any stage in the TdF and IIRC he beat Cav in one, maybe two inters, but I think it was one.

This has probably never been seen before and will most likely never be seen again, but France is third in the medal tally!

I don't think Froome will take it, as he is 5 yrs younger than Wiggo, and he fell off the cliff badly on Saturday, his recent workload has to be catching up with him, but I hope he can podium.
If Tony Martin was 100% I wouldn't have ruled him up, but IMO his chances are slim for a medal (hope I'm wrong as I really like him).
Given the profile, I'd have to put my money on Wiggo, yes he worked hard on Saturday (all for nothing unfortunately), but Sparticus can't be 100% either. Those IMO have the best combination, both TT specialist, one a climber, one a Classics rider. It will be close.
I could be wrong, but I can't see the podium having any other names on it other than those above. I hope Wiggo gets top step as due to the timing, he never really got the experience of the big homecoming after the TdF.
ITT is my speciality, so I'm gonna look pretty stupid is none of these names are there

I'd cheer anyone beating the aussies. This Olympic lead up, they were so arrogant about their supposed prowess and the media was rotten to the core as well. I think it's been a good slap in the face for them. And now they have to go into retreat and lick their wounds.
Far more arrogant than even the yanks are.

Fabian has recovered (according to him), but this is 44kms and a spikier profile than Copenhagen, so you'd have to think his injuries will come into play, but he can never be ruled out.

If by 3 medals you mean, A Brownlee, J Brownlee and Helen Jenkins, yes I think we will win 3. Whether they are Gold, Silver, Gold though will be another matter. Hard to see anyone going past AB, but JB could be under threat from Murray (SA) and Gomez (Esp). I don't think Oz will figure as Atkinson just has not really pulled off the big races this year and Kahlefedlt has a bit of a fitness cloud (he's fit but keeps getting sick). Barring any untoward mishap like a bike crash, GB should be safe for gold in the mens.
Women's is a different barrel of monkeys. Jenkins (GB) is current ITU WC, but she's been pushed very hard lately by Densham and Moffat (Aus) and Spirig (CH). Jenkins has a killer run, but is not always dominant on the bike. Very surprised to see Hall selected for GB, her swim is insane but she's very young and does not really have the results. Blatchford would be a better choice but that was a political hot spud as she only lived in the UK for her first couple of years and then moved to Oz. I think she races for GB out of convenience. She would have been a stellar choice though.
ITU isn't really my area of knowledge as I race Ironman (non drafting) tris, but I try and keep up with the ITU circuit when I can.

Is anyone else using the offical website? It's driving me round the bend. For example, on this page, trying to get to the next page of athletes and I can't see how to. I've searched and searched on various parts of the site and can't work it out. Am I being really dumb?
