I have noticed that a few people, who have been members for a long time have agreed with many aspects of the OP (#13 #47 #88 #102) but they have been conveniently ignored while some idiot start going on about grass. I have a friend who lives in Adelaide, been there a year, moved jobs 4 times (extra money) been racially abused in every job. Now to me that doesn't mean all Australians are racist. But at the same time it doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it. If you've got such a problem with the issue dont ****ing read the thread. Go and start your own idiotic thread about grass and all the other crap you like to talk about rather than make of joke of someone else's experiences. Di-spite the negative experiences my friend has said he is determined to try and settle. Why? Because he says for every bad Australian there are 10 good ones. And I think you'll find the same in the UK. Oz is without doubt one of the best places in the world to live. Yes there are problems but when you read #223 you realise that the solution is not that simple. Clan Fortune (#120) why not send your black and Asian friends a link to your post along with your address :D I think they'd understand dont you? Honestly... I think it's completely un- true to say Aussies are Racist people. I am working in England at this very minute and today already I've heard jibes at ' the Germans' and ' the Welsh' from my English workmates. Also, I get some Australian banter ie. ' All Aussie women are skanks' (which obviously is really offensive). Their racism frustrates me because it does appear never ending, but then again... There are many other people in my office who don't talk like this day in and day out. Everyone is different no matter what country you are in. Some have chips on their shoulders, some are racist. I hear as many racist comments here in England as I did back home, if not more. I think the difference is... In Australia certain words are considered completely normal and friendly in nature, however some British people have negative connotations connected to these words we use. You can't go to OZ and transfer your ' english' beliefs ' onto Aussie culture because sometimes it just doesn't work. |

One question : How come some black people call themselves and others Nigger? Never understood that, if it's racist?? |

I mean a country that has vast crops of potatoes doesn't need to buy them in from another country...do you get me drift? I am amazed at the level of sexism towards women, racism towards anyone who is not a white Australian... the Aussies don't like brits or kiwi's... God help you if your not white!! Comments I have heard from idiots since I moved here 18 months ago..... a bloke said to me that he hates the scots.... because apparently they know it all?????? Another comment: '....asians..I mean they are everywhere, you just can't get away from them', I have heard australians complain with a look of disgust about 'asians' when saying that they had found a lovely coffee bar....BUT it was run by Asians????? I don't get it, I just don't get it? Another...if I hear that pommies are whingers one more time I think that I will explode...I tell ya something pommies might whinge but the aussies don't half give us plenty to whinge about!! Yes Aussies are friendly on the surface but the majority that I have met chat s**t!! I bet you've had the good old... pommies are whingers..erm but not you, you're alright ...for a pommie...... like your supposed to feel honoured by this remark?????
I asked this bloke why the aussies have such a problem with asians.... this guy works in welfare.... he said well if you go to other countries you don't get aussie town (as in china town)! Bull s**t, what about the church in London...what about walk about....? Bloody idiot!! My husband was having a conversation with a friend a few months ago. This friend is a brit and he works in a hospital in Sydney. The friend was at work one day having a conversation with a few Australian collegues who are supposed to be well educated. They were talking about "wogs". The Brit explained that he was not comfortable with this term and he was informed by the aussies that it was ok "coz wogs like being called wogs"............ these were very well educated supposed respectable members of society??????? What about the girl that was sexually assaulted on big brother.. I don't watch it but let me tell ya I wasn't suprised when I heard about this. Men's attitudes towards women resemble that of cave men times...trust me! I am sick of going into bars here and being groped by aussie man!!!! Don't come to australia believing that it is the land of milk and honey... its NOT...the grass aint greener. YES they do have drug problems here... trust me their drug problems are massive and ever growing. They have a huge problem with ICE which is crashing the mental health care system. Yes kids take drugs here too, its just like the UK. To top it all off... I am disgusted at the attitude of white Australians toward aboriginals.... these people have been oppressed and persecuted for over two hundred years and are still being....yet the are expected to just get on with it and accept that they are second class citizens.....according to Mr Aussie man. Its disgusting, absolutely disgusting. Whats good about OZ......? The sun, cheaper petrol and cheaper meat..... in my opinion australia has a long way to go in terms of moving forward and getting 'with it'....... and before you say it ...YES I am going home...praise the Lord!!! Oz ain't better than the UK and I promise you the grass ain't greener!!!!! Thanks for your comments - some of us would just be really really pleased to find out for ourselves about the good and bad in the country. You seem to be very short on listing the good points about australia!! I am sure there are plenty of other things that are good. I think you will find where ever you live that human nature is international and crosses every sea - people moan, whinge, are racist, sexist and every other "ist" what ever country they live in, just watch the news, or read the papers. |

I agree with you shit happens every where, every day its called life its how you deal with it that counts. I truly believe some people don't know how to be happy, they don't reconise it when its in front of them. I believe happiness is within, i smile all the time an find happiness in every thing i do, every where i go but then i also believe i'm very luky to have this gift i call compensation. :D cheers redlion  :D |

I understand what you are saying but you where obviously happy with putting yourself in that situation in the first place, you wanted to take a chance with life which is great, all i am saying is that you have to be prepared to accept the changes and learn to be happy with them, if you can't no one is to blame but yourself you stepped into that life you can't change a nation to fit in, you can only change yourself if you don't like it do some thing about it life as they say is an open door so don't complain about the draft life is'nt easy any where. you have to take the shit that is thrown at you no one said you can't have bad days we all have them but you learn from them an move on not dwell in them also count your blessings you will be surprised how rich you actually are. I do mean this from my heart, i hope you find what you are looking for. |
