Some five pages of bile later, a brand new poster, registered that day, with no other posts to their name, appears and makes 'Oh yes I totally agree, Australia is a shit-hole and all Australians are nasty oiks' post - then they too disappear off the face of the earth, never to reappear. Just because you happen to agree with the sentiment, doesn't make it any less likely to be someone posting deliberately to cause trouble. If the shoe was on the other foot, I wonder how such a post would be dealt with? My feelings about the post content are irrelevant - if the posters need to be banned for any identifiable reason, they will be. |

We can't ban people simply for expressing an opinion that's different from the majority. I think every point made in the OP is valid to a certain degree. If I have the time later I'll post my own experiences of each point, though I think anyone who's lived here a while already knows that what's been said is accurate albeit worded a trite inflammatory. There are things here that will really irk you after a while, there are the just as many in the U.K. I don't think it's an Aus versus U.K thing. Australia is just different you either "get it" and love it or you don't and wonder. Despite the drugs the racism the bigotry Australia has a lot to offer. I could say just the same for the U.K. Secondly, I didn't cry 'ban' - I merely pointed out that the posters, if they were genuine, would be far more likely to stick around to continue the thread. The fact that it happened twice in one thread makes it very suspect. No? Thirdly - the OP's experiences don't bear any resemblance to my own during my previous time in Australia, or this current emigration. It happens time and again on these forums - someone says 'Australia is shit because of x, y and z' but what they should say is 'Where I am in Australia is shit because of x, y and z'. If I moved to Bradford, for instance, I think I'd have a whole different set of problems to someone living in Chingford. If even Arkon can finally realise that problems can and do exist in some areas and not others, then the case is strong, no? But yea, I think it is a case of either 'getting it' or not. |
